The Hidalgo County Commission was informed that a ten thousand dollar grant was approved by the state for the Lordsburg Emergency Shelter. The Ministerial Alliance of Lordsburg presented the commission with proof it can meet the cash match required by the state, acting as the grant agent.
Sunrise service at 6 15 am over Gary overpass. First Baptist Church invites all to 11 00 am Easter cantata Risen to Save presenting the Easter message. Scripture Baptist plans Good Friday service on Friday April 17. Kindergarten registration for Lordsburg Elementary on April 21 1992 9 00 am to 12 00 pm at R V Traylor Elementary requires birth certificates and immunization records. Child must be 5 by September 1 1992 for 1992 93. Call 542 9222.
Jimmie McCants of the Knights of Pythias says the Easter Bunny is not found prompting a search led by Charlie Hayes an Easter Bunny expert. Hayes expects the bunny to appear Saturday at 1 00 PM starting at Western Bank parking lot with a bicycle decorating contest and a parade to Hidalgo County Fairgrounds. Adults will have a special hunt and gold and silver eggs will yield prizes.
Lordsburg City Council votes to begin an open community meeting the first Thursday of each month at City Hall. The pilot session is set for May 7 at 7 00 pm with councilors Bal Salinas Clark Smith and W L Sanders on hand to hear residents views. In other business Isaac Martinez seeks 60 acres at Exit 24 for a travel plaza adjoining airport land and awaiting FAA guidance.
The Lordsburg Elks may revive the Citizen of the Year Banquet this year at the Elks Lodge with Elks providing food. The last banquet occurred in 1988 honoring Don Kling. Past recipients are listed from 1965 through 1987, with details to be published as criteria are set.
Newly elected Lordsburg Councilors Ann Marie Moore and Bal Salinas attended a workshop at Inn Of The Mountain Gods in Ruidoso. Sponsored by the New Mexico Municipal League, the city paid per diems of 150.00 for each councilor and 102.52 for Moore’s mileage plus a 30.00 registration fee.
The Liberal continues its policy of sending questions to state senate and representative candidates and county office contenders on issues affecting Hidalgo County. After soliciting citizen input for its Questions and Answers survey, the paper notes a large field of candidates and that responses will appear about three weeks before the June primary with results on page 4.
