City weighs cutting interstate street lights to trim budget
At a special meeting the council approved a resolution asking CPS and the State Highway Department to study lighting and help keep costs within budget. Current year lighting costs exceed the $25,000 appropriated, with projected expenses over $40,000, risking a large reduction of lights on I 10 Railroad Avenue and Highway 90. CPS would require about $42 per fixture to remove lights, and the city must cover removal costs and protect remaining wiring.
