Hidalgo County commission weighs Ed Horton plant funding request

At a regular meeting Hidalgo County commissioners discussed the proposed non metallic chemical plant led by Ed Horton. City officials seek county sponsorship to apply for CDBG funds to leverage UDAG support, with Horton promising 40-50 jobs initially and another 40-50 later. The commissioners requested project value history and references and set a special April 17 session to review the proposal.

Spring Water Runoff Is Below Average

The Gila River spring and summer streamflow outlook is poor as April snowpack reached 39 percent of average and March rainfall stayed under 1.5 inches. Gila runoff is forecast at Virden 36 percent and at Gila 38 percent of average, with VirdenMarch at 8,310 acre feet or 32 percent. Pioneer Rancher Passes Away In Arizona Region

Pioneer rancher Harry Alfred Day died Tuesday April 10 in Southeastern Arizona and Western New Mexico. Born December 11, 1898 in Duncan, he worked in ranching since 1920. Survived by wife Ada May. daughters Sandra O'Connor of Washington DC and Ann Alexander of Tucson. son Allan Day of Duncan. sister Alice Mason. eight grandchildren. Memorial services set for Friday April 13 at 2:00 p.m. at Lazy B Ranch headquarters.

Lola Casner Jones, 92, died April 3 1984 in Las Cruces. Born January 2 1892 in Llano County Texas, she lived in Lordsburg 63 years and Hatch 642 years. She owned a flower shop, worked with the Lordsburg Chamber of Commerce and Baptist Church, and graduated from San Marcos Baptist Academy. Survived by son Von B Jones and daughter-in-law Vivian Jones of Lordsburg, daughter Alice J Wayne of Hatch, two grandchildren George C Wayne El Paso and Susan Wayne Faulkenberry Dallas, four great grandchildren Chad Geoffrey Wayne El Paso and Allyson Ashley Faulkenberry Dallas. Funeral was April 6 1984 at Heather Chapel Lordsburg, burial Mt View Cemetery. Pallbearers listed: Charles Williams Bryant Winslow Ted White Bill Fisher Fred Ewing Joe Rouse.

Taxpayers have an extra day to file as April 15 falls on a Sunday. Postmaster Powers of Lordsburg notes the IRS will not pay postage due for returns mailed without proper postage. such mail will be returned. Senders should mail early and confirm postage and include a return address on the envelope.

Bravo Seeks Hidalgo County Commissioner Seat District II

Paul Bravo announces his bid for a first term as Hidalgo County Commissioner in District II. A Lordsburg city council member and Optimist Club director, Bravo also chairs a 1984 Soap Box Derby committee and manages the Western Bank Little League. He has seven years in Lordsburg and works for Phelps Dodge in Playas. He is married to Debbie Placencia who works at Miller Chevrolet.
