Mrs Evans and Mrs Brown recount a Sunday outing near Separ where four women prospectors encountered multiple rattlers. They dispatched four snakes, two by the women and two by the men the next day, transporting the specimens into town.
The Rainbow Assembly schedules a public convocation Sunday April 12 at 2 39 p m at the Masonic Hall. The Odyssey 3 x group leads the public program and urges attendance.
Members urged to attend the regular meeting at the Masonic Hall on Tuesday April 14 at 8pm. Visitors are welcome.
John Porta is named the new manager of Lordsburg Air Port. A World War II and U S Air Corps veteran, Porta from Tucson has been in the area 18 years and plans to establish flight instructions and charter trips as operations are organized. His wife and son Barry are recovering from illness and expect to arrive mid next week.
Mrs. S. Jack Heather of Lordsburg chairs Hidalgo County Cancer Crusade per J. C. Hester. April is Cancer Crusade month in New Mexico with an active drive after Easter. Hester says early diagnosis can cure cancer and education and research aid control. The drive aims to raise over 36000 as New Mexico’s share in the crusade. The article lists seven danger signals and notes efforts by volunteers statewide.
The Junior Class dominated the intermural track meet on the high school field winning 12 of 16 events and 109 percent of possible points. Freshmen placed second with 40 percent, Sophomores third with 38, and Seniors fourth with 36 in a tight overall standings.
Injured are Tidel Vasquez and Miss Pablo Sanchez when the car driven by Gregorio Cruz was rear ended by a Southwestern Transport Truck driven by Harry Alamado of Lordsburg about 5:30 am twenty one miles east of Lordsburg. Vasquez has internal injuries while Chavez suffers a severe head wound. The Cruz party, including Cruz's wife and two children, were uninjured. All residents of Fabens Texas.
Plans finalized for the New Mexico Federation of Women’s Clubs state convention to be held April 13 to 16 with Landsburg Women’s Clubs as hostesses. Forty eight clubs will be represented by presidents and delegates. State President Mrs A A Kemplitz of Hobbs will preside at all sessions with other state officers and attendees from across New Mexico and the federation.
A Hidalgo County Farm and Livestock Bureau letter summarizes a recent membership drive. Fifty six new members were added as teams contacted farmers and ranchers across the county.
An art display runs Monday to Wednesday at the High School building from 4 to 6 p.m. For those unable to attend, the building opens Tuesday evening from 7 to 9. The public is invited and encouraged to view the exhibition.
The Municipal School intends to continue a summer recreation program for youth and adults. Four or five teachers are budgeted to work about eight weeks, offering music physical education driver education shop and academic work. The program will again cooperate with the Soft Ball Association by providing the field and equipment and by the physical education director assisting the league.
