Redford, son of Mr and Mrs of this city, won the spell contest held at Central. The district spelling will be held in El Paso. Jimmy will retire from Lordsburg element El Paso on April the district spelling contest will be held.

ENMU Madrigal Singers To Perform At High School Auditorium

The Eastern New Mexico University Madrigal Singers under Robert E. Page will give a concert at the high school auditorium Monday evening at 8:00. Proceeds benefit the local Red Cross drive. Eleven singers from ENMU, with an accompanist, will perform Renaissance madrigals and folk arrangements as part of a six concert and one clinic tour of New Mexico cities.

Seniors Win Intramural Track Meet Scoring 99 Points

Seniors dominate the high school intramural track meet held Tuesday night scoring 99 points to Juniors 57. Teresa Correa tops girls events with 15 points and three firsts. Individual event results list 120 yd hurdles won by Orran Fairly and a tie for 100 yd dash between Bob Williams and Don McAlister.

Telephone Bills Reflect Tax Reduction

H H Bryant of Mountain States and Telegraph Company says the excise tax cut approved by Congress and President Eisenhower will lower bills dated April 1 and after. He notes savings go to the user with examples showing a $4 regular service and $2 long distance plan reducing the monthly tax by about one dollar.

Plans for Lordsburg baseball season outlined at meeting

A local meeting last week set plans for a summer baseball season. Isabel Sanchez was elected manager. Lordsburg will field independent ball with contacts being made with nearby towns for a full schedule. Most of last year’s players return and several promising recruits join the squad. A new recruit shows speed and control, aiming to bolster the pitching staff. De La Garza leaves Lordsburg. center field vacancy noted. Home games to be played Sundays at 2:30 p.m.

Senior class play Cradle Troubadour set for April ninth

The senior class presents a mystery comedy in three acts titled Cradle Troubadour. In a high school auditorium at 7 30 P M tickets are sold by senior class members. The cast features about twenty players and a real baby will be used. Mr and Mrs Homer Brooks visited relatives in Clifton Arizona last Sunday.

City elects Brown for Police Judge and bonds pass

Tuesday’s city election produced a narrow races in the mayoral and alderman contests. Brown defeated incumbent Gale 458 to 343 for Police Judge. Alderman candidates Medina and others led in precinct totals, and a $60,000 recreational bond issue was approved 284 to 107 with City Clerk Hall predicting easy sale at low interest.

Pres Freeburg Plan Opens SWNMSEA Convention

The Southwest New Mexico Education Association convened in Las Cruces at Milton Hall with about 900 school administrators and teachers from Hidalgo Sierra Luna Otero Dona Ana Cantron and Grant counties. President Freeburg's planning was praised as the meeting opened April 2 at 9 30 A M. A morning panel featured Peter M. Chase president of the Lordsburg Board of Education.
