Lt Grace Linn of the Station Hospital departed Monday for a ten day leave in South Dakota. Mrs R C Baker wife of Col Haker commanding officer left Friday for Enid Oklahoma after a two month visit at Lordsburg. Capt and Mrs R B Deckum left April 2 for Roswell where they spent four days on official business.

Army Ladies Attend Coke Party Hosted by Mrs Rufus Crews

Mrs. Rufus Crews hosted a morning coke party for army ladies from 10 to 12 on Saturday. Guest of honor was Mrs. Z W Tinker, wife of Capt Tinker who was moved from Lordsburg camp to Dallas. The Tinker family departed Thursday for their new station.

Rodriguezes Welcome Daughter Cleo Lee in El Paso

Mr and Mrs A L Rodriguez of El Paso welcomed daughter Cleo Lee born Sunday March 238. Mrs Rodriguez is former Cleo Warren daughter of Capt and Mrs A J Warren of Lordsburg. Capt Warren returned April 6 to the Lordsburg camp after two months at Ft. Custer officer school. Mrs Warren remained in El Paso with her child. Officers Club members spent Saturday evening at the club after a US entertainment at the Post Recreation Hall.

Navy Recruiting Cruiser Visits Lordsburg For WAVES SPARS

The U S Navy recruiting cruiser arrived in Lordsburg Thursday with a four member crew to recruit for WAVES and SPARS. Chief Donovan Hoover, a former American Legion leader, highlighted naval activities and submarines at a high school presentation after a noon arrival. A large crowd attended the moving pictures and talks, with a detailed loudspeaker briefing accompanying the screening.

Surprise wedding ties young couple in Silver City

Betty Been daughter of City Marshal Leonard Been and Sgt. David Jones son of banker Arthur F. Jones wed Sunday morning after obtaining a license from County Clerk George Keener and having Judge Andrew Haugland perform the ceremony. Honeymoon postponed due to camp duties.

War Loan Committee Opens Second Campaign in Hidalgo Lounge

A group planning the Second War Loan met in Hidalgo lounge Monday night to launch the initial campaign and set May 1 as the end date, with activities to begin next Monday across the United States.

M. L. Dannelley Dies After Illness in Silver City

M. L. Dannelley a long time Grant County resident and former Hurley filling station owner died at his Silver City home last week after a heart attack. Born October 15 1870 he moved to New Mexico in 1891 worked for Chino Mines 18 years and retired to operate his station. Survived by his widow two daughters two sons ten grandchildren four great grandchildren. Funeral services conducted by Cox Mortuary were held Friday at the chapel with Rev. Wintrop Mayer officiating. Interment at the Masonic cemetery.

New Construction and Priority Assistance Rules

Paul Hudson, County Agent, notes that any agricultural construction costing over 1000 dollars and most other builds over 200 dollars require prior approval from the War Production Board. Applications for agricultural work go through USDA War Boards locally. others apply to the War Production Board in Albuquerque or El Paso. Clearing takes 7 to 10 days, with three weeks for overall approval. Priority is required for items like 2 inch pump pipe or larger.

Supplementing last week obituary the funeral service for Thomas Allen Kerr mirrored the earlier service for Ida Frank lin Kerr. At the Methodist Church Rev Franklin R Ponge led a comforting ceremony with music by Thelma Ross Harold Scofield Dr C B Austin Sam Gass and James Sumner. Burial was at Mountainview beside his wife as offices closed in tribute.
