DeFoor Appointed New School Superintendent in Lordsburg

New superintendent DeFoor begins July 1 1984 under a two year contract after a long career in Lordsburg schools. He taught history and physical education at Central and Lordsburg Junior High before moving to the high school as coach and teacher. He later became principal at LHS and holds an Admin degree plus a BA in Education and an AS in Education. He and his wife Jewell have three sons Ronnie Matthew and Chris.

Badgettts Honored In Lordsburg For Years Of Service

Surprise church service and reception honor Bud and Charlotte Badgett for decades of community work in Lordsburg. They arrived in 1952 and built Fashion Cleaners, supporting the city through school, church, clubs, and government. Recognitions come from First United Methodist Church, local organizations, and out-of-town guests.

Masseys Are State's Top Corn Growers

Massey Enterprises of Animas won first place in New Mexico for the 1983 NCGA Corn Yield Contest with a 199.18 bushels per acre yield. Their irrigated entry used PX 9581 from Northrup King Co planted April 11 and harvested mid September 1983. Winners nationwide will be honored at the NCGA convention in Indianapolis, July 28 to August 1, 1984.

Animas Sets Kindergarten Registration

Animas kindergarten registration will be held Friday April 13 from 9 to 11 a.m. in Room 107. Parents must bring birth certificate and immunization records. Child must be five by September 1, 1984. Health nurse Marilyn Hale will administer needed immunizations if parent is present. Current kindergartners will not attend school that day.

Powers Appointed As Acting Postmaster In Lordsburg

Ed Powers of Albuquerque is acting Postmaster in Lordsburg for three to four months. He began duties Friday after swearing in Thursday and will live in Lordsburg during the assignment. He will travel to Albuquerque every three weeks to visit his wife and six children and serves as a Delivery Service Analyst supporting customer service to the Management Section Center between Rodeo and Espanola.
