A used book sale runs at the Lordsburg Hidalgo Public Library from April 2 to 7 weather permitting. The library offers large print titles on loan from the Santa Fe Library. A filmstrip for children in 1st through 4th grades is shown Saturdays at 10:00 A.M.
One of two Lordsburg City Police officers acquitted of bribery in a Sixth District Court trial appeared before the city council on Wednesday to seek back wages and reinstatement.
Mrs. Harber J. Heather known as Stub, 58, died April 1 after a brief illness. Born Clifton Arizona July 21 1920 she moved to Lordsburg at 12 and graduated Lordsburg High 1937. She married Harber Heather October 23 1941 and leaves husband daughter Susan son Jack brothers Erwin and Tom, nephews and nieces. Active in Eastern Star Beta Sigma Phi and Methodist Church.
The Sunshine Haven Nursing Home in Lordsburg is reportedly off the sale to National Medical Management Corporation after Western Elder Care Center withdrew its application. A state inspection team toured the facility and certified it for veterans.
Hidalgo General Hospital faces a nursing shortage that prevents full bed capacity. Administrators deny closing rumors and say severe cardio-pulmonary and cardio-vascular patients are being transferred to Silver City until enough RNs are hired within two to three weeks. Dr. Hargis oversees care with transfers to Hillcrest Hospital and ICU equipment delays contribute to the moratorium on critical patients.
A two-van mobile dental unit from New Mexico Health and Social Services visits about 35 communities yearly, offering exams cleanings fluoride and minor repairs. Dentists explain procedures to reassure children from kindergarten through high school, with in-class education reinforcing dental hygiene and diet. The program serves 3500 to 4000 children, prioritizing financial need but accepting isolated students in Animas area.
