Bobby Borrego accepts the postmaster job in Silver City after seven and a half years in Lordsburg. Dollie Repp will lead Lordsburg as interim postmaster from Morenci while awaiting a permanent appointment. Borrego has been active in civic roles including Lions Club and Elks, and serves as Lordsburg councilman and Hidalgo County Cancer Society president. Repp has 28 years with the Postal Service and led Morenci post office for 11 years.

Marine Lance Corporal David Young returns to Lordsburg on furlough after seven months in the Middle East. He served in Saudia Arabia cooking meals for 25,000 service members and spent his final month driving trucks into Kuwait with a decon team. He plans to return to base in San Diego, then Okinawa for six months, before completing a four year enlistment. He is the son of Mary and Ralph Young, a 1988 Lordsburg High School graduate, with brother Gary in the U.S. Air Force in Denver.

Lordsburg School Board halts Enrichment Center demolition bid plans
The Enrichment Center Steering Committee announced during a Tuesday Lordsburg Municipal School Board meeting that plans to solicit bids for demolishing the Enrichment Center, the old high school, have been discontinued indefinitely. Superintendent Phil Defoor read the response. the decision notes provisions should further efforts be pursued.

Landsail Races Planned in Lordsburg with Boy Scouts and Local Events
The Optimist Landsail Races set for April 13 14 draw entries from Colorado Albuquerque Deming Tucson Las Cruces and California with Lordsburg seeking more participants. Entry is 20 for single and two man sails with cash prizes and trophies. A Saturday bicycle rodeo for ages 5 to 15 runs at 10 am with no entry fee but parental consent. Other activities include kite flying horseback and go cart rides, booths, and food. Funeral services for Antonio M Alvarez are pending in Tucson.

Clyde Preston announces a new 40 unit motel to replace his second Motel 10 on Motel Drive. The project includes selling nine modular units with 31 rooms and baths to clear space. Construction is aimed to begin in June, following his 1989 40 unit motel off I 10.

Services Held Monday For Kelly Saucedo
Herbert Kelly Saucedo 36 of Lordsburg died in El Paso on a Wednesday. A vigil was held Sunday at St. Josephs Catholic Church with Fr. Carmelo Arroyo. the funeral liturgy followed Monday at the same church with Fr. Virgilio Sanchez. Interment was at Shakespeare Cemetery. Born January 23 1955 in Lordsburg to Herbert V and Connie Saucedo, he was a 1973 Lordsburg High School basketball star and later played at Cochise Community College. He ran Los Arcos Liquor Mart and was a St Josephs member. He is survived by his parents, his daughter Kristen Elise Saucedo of Lordsburg, his brother Michael Rene G Saucedo, and grandfather H A Saucedo. Pallbearers and honorary bearers are listed. Memorials may go to leukemia research. Arrangements by Baca's Funeral Chapels.

The LHS Mock Trial Team finished state finals in Albuquerque with a 2 win 2 loss record and 244.46 points, placing tenth. Los Alamos won with 4 0 and 271.88 points, earning a trip to New Orleans, while Hot Springs Portales Onate and Rio Grande followed. Memorial services for a Phoenix deceased were held March 12, 1991.
