The notice reminds readers to move clocks forward one hour this weekend as daylight saving time begins after Saturday night. It urges retirees and all residents to adjust time before Sunday morning.
The Lordsburg Lions Club will host a broom sale Friday and Saturday at Saucedo's and Up To Date parking lots offering various broom types. Proceeds fund glasses and eye exams for those in need, with Dr. Michael Coon providing reduced rates. Aiming to support New Mexico School For The Blind, the sale also funds local donations and other eye care costs.
Animas Public Schools will hold kindergarten registration on April 9 from 8 30 to 11 00 AM in room 105 of the elementary school. Parents must bring birth records and immunization records. Children must be five by September 1 1992 to start in fall 1992. Current kindergarten students will not have classes that day.
Richard Noyes, chairman of the New Mexico Border Authority, schedules the April meeting for Thursday April 9 in Lordsburg at the Dr James Baxter Civic Center. Hidalgo County Commission Chairman Maura Rice says the event will draw many people. Sessions begin 8 30 AM with committee meetings 9 to 11 AM before the Authority convenes.
Geoff Babb Preserve Manager for the Nature Conservancy says there is nothing definite about selling the Grey Ranch. The Conservancy has talked with several potential partners including Ted Turner. Any partner would involve ongoing conservation and the Conservancy retaining a management base and part ownership of the ranch.
Race chairman Tommy Chaves announced postponement of the Optimist Landsail races set for April 11 and 12 due to a flooded course. A new date will be released next week.
Marvin Lawrence Bradberry was born January 15 1909 in Chiricahua Cochise County Arizona and died March 28 1992. He was the third of eleven children of Lonzo and Edith Bradberry. He attended Lordsburg schools and helped operate the Bradberry Ranch. He worked as a ranch hand for Dick Cureton and other ranchers. An outdoorsman he loved ranch life and living near the mountains. He married Mary Louise Foley on October 2 1922 and in October last year they celebrated their 58th anniversary. In 1936 they moved to California with son James Marvin and daughter Leta Ann. He worked as a motorman for the Los Angeles Railway.
The Lordsburg City Council in special session approved 1/16 of one percent Municipal Infrastructure Gross Receipts tax by ordinance with revenue dedicated to the general fund and previously set percentages for gas sewer water and solid waste to be realigned. The 1991 dedication to the general fund was amended and both increments take effect July 1 1992. The meeting lasted about 15 minutes.
Elvira M. Ybarra 70 of Lordsburg died Sunday March 29 at Gila Regional Medical Center. She was born October 8, 1992 in New Mexico to Florentino and Carmen Martinez and lived in the area all her life. She was a member of St. Joseph's Church and is survived by husband Benjamin Ybarra three sons three daughters two brothers and two sisters eighteen grandchildren six great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. A mass was held April 2 at St. Joseph's Church with burial at Shakespeare Cemetery following a Wednesday visitation and rosary. Cannible's Chapel of the Roses assisted.
Tuesday April 7 is the sole filing day for all Hidalgo County candidates. Filing occurs from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM in the County Clerk's Office. The upcoming election has drawn interest as multiple candidates announce for various offices. The pay scale for Hidalgo County office holders is listed.
Chris Dimas, 12, son of Tommy and Lucy Dimas of Lordsburg, captured first place in a statewide Savings Bonds poster contest and received a $1000 U.S. Savings Bond from Governor Bruce King and Lt. Governor Casey Luna in Santa Fe on March 19. Lisa Zachary and Jerry Hart won $200 and $500 bonds respectively among 224 contestants. Dimas advances to the national contest with awards in Washington, D.C.
