Lordsburg High School athletes battled Morenci High on a windy Saturday, ending 117 to 73 in favor of Morenci. Fillemon I won multiple events including high jump and hurdles, while Morenci swept several track and field events with wins in shot put discus and sprints.
A series of four meetings for adults interested in Cub Scouting begins next Thursday at 7 30 PM in the Methodist church basement. The sessions aim to inform attendees so they can better support the Cub Scout program.
Ida Saucedo 14, daughter of Mr and Mrs H A Saucedo, will represent Lordsburg Junior High in the El Paso Herald Post spelling contest at El Paso High School on April 24. She led a local elimination defeating about forty seventh and eighth graders. second place went to Joe Madrid and third to Eugene Romney. The national contest in Washington D C offers prizes of 500, 200 and 100 dollars.
The PTA will hold its state meeting in Hobbs New Mexico from April 23 to 25 with headquarters at the Hardin Hotel. Lordsburg units have eighteen delegates and hopes for a strong turnout. Mrs Leta Harwood, Lordsburg PTA president and school board member, was asked to serve on a panel discussing Public Support for Public Education.
The regular meeting of the W S C S is set for 8 00 P M Wednesday April 8 at Mrs Emma Scofield s home W S C S president also announces the Yucca Zone meeting will be held in Deming on April 9.

Captain Bradford completed a three week course at Northwestern Traffic Institute in Evanston ill designed for city police to study accident causes and improve enforcement. He attended with Patrolman Tafoya of the New Mexico State Police as participants from various states and even a law official from Arabia.
Girl Scout troops sell cookies to raise funds for activities and camp. Leaders and committee members promote the drive this week, asking community support to help with expenses and programs.
John S Clark son of Mrs Luella Clark of this city is chosen project manager for the electrical work on the Atomic Energy Commission’s new gaseous diffusion plant in Pike County Ohio. Reynolds Electrical and Engineering Co leads administration engineering and procurement with Newberry Electrical Corp in Los Angeles on field supervision. The two firms share a $1.2 million sub contract, the largest in world at the time.
Local committee led by Harold Scofield wraps a one day Boy Scout drive on March 390. Kick off at American Legion hall. top collector Jack McGhee earns sea knife with 156 dollars. A. L. Means close second with 140 dollars. Mrs. Robert Williams wins candy with 72 dollars.
Leaders of Pine Cone Perol and Brownie Troop No 4 will serve coffee from 10:00 A M to 12:00 P M Friday. The event will be in front of the Cochran store where coffee and cookies will be sold.
The Red Cross Mobile Blood Unit will visit Lordsburg at the American Legion Hall on east 10th street from 3:00 to 7:00 P M on April 9. Hidalgo County blood program chair Mrs Homer Brooks urges donations to help the Korean war zone. Local Elks lodges assist in the drive and all blood collected will be shipped whole to Korea.
The three act Patsy was presented by the M. L A. of the L. D. 8 S. church at the Junior High School Auditorium on Tuesday evening March 31 to a large audience. Included was Homer and Jethro impersonated by Verne Payne and Philip Means with a large cast led by Pop Harrington Ivan Richardson and Grace portrayed by Effie Powell.
The High School PTSA announces a meeting next Thursday April 9 at 7 30 PM in the High School building. Members and guests are urged to attend for updates and planning.
The regular Girl Scout April camp meeting will be held on Tuesday April 7 at the Little House in Silver City at 7 30 P M.
