The Knights of Phythias announce a community Easter egg hunt at Hidalgo County Fairgrounds on Saturday April 10. Harvey Lang and Jimmy McCants say multiple Easter Bunnies have been contacted this year and a citizen panel will help identify the real one, with impostors returned to the woods. Hundreds of real eggs will be hidden and about 150 plastic eggs prize-filled, including gift certificates from local businesses.

Accident Claims Life Of Douglas Morris In Animas
Douglas Dwayne Morris aged 25 of Animas died in an industrial accident on Saturday March 27. Born January 7 1968 at Holloman AFB Alamogordo he worked for Elbrock Water Systems and served in the Army National Guard. Graveside services set for Tuesday at 11 at Middle Animas Cemetery. He is survived by his wife Starla, a son, parents Dwayne and Flossie Morris, two brothers, grandparents and in laws. Funeral arrangements by Bacas Deming.

Southern Pacific Chemical Spill Handled Here
A chemical spill halted activity in Lordsburg when 25 gallons of styrene and monomer leaked from a tanker on a Southern Pacific train. Police moved the tanker to the Gary Exit as a precaution while the spill was contained with water and sand and the leak stopped on its own before cleanup.

Services Held In Las Cruces For Avelina Estrada
Avelina Estrada born July 21 1899 in Chihuahua Mexico died March 24 1993 at Memorial Medical Center Las Cruces. She was survived by three daughters Anita Hernandez Dora Lambrano Carmen Ortega and one son Arturo Estrada along with two sisters and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Funeral liturgy was held at Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral and interment followed at Masonic Cemetery. Graham Mortuary handled arrangements.
