Easter Parade and Egg Hunt Saturday

The Knights of Pythias Easter Parade starts from Western Bank Parking lot at 2:00 PM and travels along Second Street to Hidalgo County Fair Grounds. Egg hunt has two age groups and 700 eggs hidden with prize eggs worth 2.00, 3.50, or 5.00. New Mexico Hospital children’s services expanded at UNM Hospital with pediatric care across the state and Albuquerque.

Lordsburg Forms Civil Air Patrol Unit Talon Flight

Lordsburg forms a Civil Air Patrol unit with Hank Mullins as commander. Mullins, a retired airman and Mullins Flight Service owner, leads a 19 member group six licensed pilots. The unit, affiliated with Las Cruces composite squadron, meets first Saturday each month at 9:00 at Lordsburg Airport. aims to form a youth affiliate later and seeks new members 18 and older.

Postage Rates To Increase Monday

Postage increases take effect at 12:01 A M on Monday April 3. First class mail rises from 22 to 25 cents and postcards go to 15 cents, up one cent. Other mail rates will also rise and rate information has been distributed by the department.

County Clerk instalIs IBM 4130 computer in Hidalgo Office

Hidalgo County Clerk Missy Morelos announced a new IBM 4130 computer will produce voter registration lists in one day, replacing prior offsite work at New Mexico State University. The system will also function as a word processor and label printer, costing about $4,000 with annual savings near $2,000. Other county offices may install computers, and the County Ambulance Service has recently added one.

Commissioners Pledge Indigent Care Funding for Gila Regional

Hidalgo County commissioners plan to add 25 000 to 30 000 dollars to next year’s budget to cover indigent payments to Gila Regional Hospital in Silver City. Gila Regional representative Ron McArthur urged an 18 percent indigent tax to create Hidalgo Indigent Fund for bad debts from noncollectable accounts, noting 12 percent of patients come from Hidalgo County totaling 1.6 million dollars in revenue with 236 496 dollars written off last year. He cited ongoing efforts to attract medical facilities to the Hidalgo area since Dr Maynard left Lordsburg eight and a half months ago.

McDonald And Hill Attend Film Seminar

Pansy McDonald and Marsha Hill joined a Film Liaison Seminar in Deming hosted by the New Mexico Film Commission. Attendees from Deming, Columbus, Silver City and Lordsburg learned tips to attract film and video productions, stressing community cooperation and stable pricing during shoots. Linda Hutchison praised Lordsburg for cooperation and noted more film projects coming to the Southwest.
