Lifesavers from Monmouth Beach rescued a crew during a perilous incident as a steamer named Qalon Augle of Morin EAH faced danger. Nearby vessels aided and prevented further excitement during a tense hours long effort to avert tragedy.
The Panama Railroad liner Colon with 140 passengers and heavy cargo struck the bury rocks known as Shrewsbury Rock during low tide. After hours pinned on a submerged ledge she was pulled off by another steam craft and resumed voyage to New York. Two prisoners remained aboard the ledge for about three and a half hours before rescue.
The Presbytery of held at Belmar on Tuesday elected Wan of Red Bank as moderator. Arthur Vip of was clerk. Delegates from Shrewsbury and ateowl churches, and New Brunswick area attended. The meeting addressed arrangements and church matters amid regional ties.

Rock Island passenger train No 40 derailed two miles west of town killing three and wounding about twenty as eight coaches left the rails and rolled down a twenty foot embankment. Manhattan physicians hurried to the scene and ferried the injured to the city hospital. Simson Memorial Church members held an enthusiastic meeting with refreshments afterward. A coal mine strike mediator for Denver was named by Secretary Wilson.
Former Mayor H O Wittpenn National Committeeman Robert S Handapeth and State Chairman Edward Gresecup address a strong letter endorsing Governor Fielder. The message dated Sept 19 1912 urges voters to support Fielder in the forthcoming primary and general elections. Continued on fifth page.
Albany Sept 20 The ailing governor William Sulzer’s friends fear a complete breakdown in his bid to survive the graft trial. Though supporters say he is improving, reports say he is far from well and may appear in person at the impeachment court only if his counsel agrees.
Representatives from Red Bank met at Grace Moist Church to discuss a Men and Religion Forward Movement driving plan for 200 meetings in eight centers over four months. A two day convention is planned October 15 and 16 with churches from Little Silver Oceanic Fair Haven and Matawan invited.
Michael Garland a prominent Bright plumber and former Garfield avenue resident died at his Centre street home after a brief illness. Funeral services will be held at the Garland home with Rev. Orville Duane officiating. burial at Glenwood Cemetery with Knight Templar honors. Garland founded the Garland building in Asbury Park and did much work on Rumson cottages, held Masonic affiliations in Long Branch and Sea Bright Fire Department service.
Rev Charles Francis McKay will be installed as pastor of the First Baptist Church next Wednesday night. The public exercise features vocal selections, music and addresses. The program includes organ voluntary, hymns, scripture passage, prayers, quartette numbers and greetings from city and state church figures.
