Eugene Kennedy of First Street Oceanic awoke to a lamp shade breaking and found the house on fire. He woke his family and they escaped with nine members and two dogs perishing in the dining room. Losses include 200 in furniture and 250 in cash. The fire started in the kitchen and spread to the dining room. John Kennedy, 19, jumped from a window then helped Iris, Mammie, and Margaret escape. Willesville man loses eye sight after workplace accident
Andrew J. Steelman of Willesville suffered a severe eye injury at the old Edwards mill when a tat-tail file pierced his right pupil while lacing a belt. He was taken to Monmouth Memorial Hospital where doctors say he will not lose the eye but cannot see through it again.
