Gala Night of New Jersey Elks Draws Crowds to Long Branch

The Long Branch Lodge and the New Jersey State Association of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks hosted a two day reunion that drew thousands of Elks and friends to the seashore city. Mayor Newcomb received the city key but pledged to return it unblemished. The event featured outings, banquets, and an inaugural meeting with officers elected, all praised for hospitality and order. The parade met high expectations with strong public support and the Long Branch lodge led preparations. Also noted was the death of Mrs. Henrietta Bonnell at her daughter’s home in Ocean Avenue aged 81, with burial in Evergreen Cemetery Elizabeth tomorrow.

Vice Chancellor Reserves Decision In Bridge Case

Henry E. Ackerson Jr a Democratic senator hopeful challenged county demurrer to Monmouth Lighting Englishtown suit seeking injunction to halt bridge use over disputed abutments diverting water to power house. Vice Chancellor Stevens Newark reserved ruling after reviewing briefs and counsel.

Campbell heads 23th Volunteers

The silver reunion of the 2th New Jersey Volunteers was held in Keansburg with about 250 veterans and guests. President James Campbell presided as Rev S Book gave the blessing. William W Ramsey spoke, Rev Morton A Barnes delivered the oration on The Soldier and the Citizen. Uriah Seeley and Rev S K Moore contributed addresses. New officers were elected.

Red Bank jewelry recovered from robbery case

Councilman and Mrs. A L Miller reported nearly all their stolen jewelry recovered after Elmer E. Crites, 22 or 23, was jailed in Elizabeth. He was arrested in Rahway for concealed weapons and linked to the Red Bank burglary through baggage checks and a Gimbels charge slip. About 400 dollars of jewelry was stolen and insured.

Boy Whose Wheel Was Stolen Gets New One

Freddie Worrell of West Long Branch had his Hartford wheel stolen last Thursday night. Mayor Arthur F. Golden’s associate received quick public sympathy and a subscription drive funded a replacement wheel. Marshal Nicholas V. White organized the effort which attracted many supporters. Freddie was presented with his new wheel this morning, amid gratitude and joy.

Recorder Suspended Sentence At Central Station

Edward Jones appeared before S orrowsmith this morning for traffic violation at Central station and was released on suspended sentence. Mrs George E West of Grand Ave Nut won first prize and two seconds in Domestic Science at Monmouth County Agricultural Fair. The annual dam bake and outing of Adalt Chapter No 6 Order of the Eastern Star will be at Price's Hotel Pleasure Bay tonight, bake served at six.
