Red Bank Fair breaks records for crowds and exhibits

At Red Bank the third annual Monmouth County Agricultural Association show drew record crowds on Labor Day weekend with 18,000 estimated attendees for day two. Judges tallied many prize winners across divisions including horses, mares, roadsters, harness, polo ponies, riding animals, and farm horses.

Roy Campbell Dies at Monmouth Memorial Hospital

William Roy Campbell a Long Branch native and former Washington Treasury architect, died after a three week typhoid illness. Funeral will be Wednesday at 3:30 from S. S. Higginen’s Eatontown home and 4:00 at Christ Church Shrewsbury. He was born February 1887 and educated in Long Branch, later working in architecture offices in Long Branch and Hartford before joining the Treasury building staff in Washington. He studied at Washington University and the University of Pennsylvania before illness. He was active in St James Church and a longtime choir member.

Hollywood Polo Assoc meet at race day crowd heavy

Big holiday crowd watched racing on a quarter mile track as Hollywood Polo Association meet concluded. Veto broke a leg in the quarter mile dash and was shot. Winners included Prince and Strideaway, Mrs Elliott, Peter Hauck Jr, Frederick Wettach, and Miss Maude Nathan.

Fire alarm box demolished after coachman collision

Fire alarm box 14 at Ocean and Lincoln avenues was wrecked Sunday. Firemen found the inner box ruined and blamed a wagonette mishap or curb impact. Coachman Gordon claimed he pulled in to avoid an automobile and knew nothing of summoning the fire department. Randolph McLain opens a meat delivery route with cash orders available citywide.

Holiday trolley wreck injures five near Highlands

Five people were hurt when a 7 o clock trolley struck a threeseated carriage at Miller Street crossing. The Hanson family and a couple were aboard the carriage. The driver and motorman were arrested, bail set at $200 each, and Hanson threatened a $10,000 suit.

Long Branch Piers First Piling Driven With Ceremony

A public ceremony marked the sinking of the first piling for Long Branch's proposed million dollar pier. VIPs from Newark and Jersey City attended, with Samuel R. Rosoff as prime mover and Mayor Charles O. McFaddin as emcee. The event drew a large crowd and featured Royal Infantry Band music and a formal program alongside festive decorations.

Sunday Ball Players Discharged by City Court

In Recorder Van Doren’s court at City Hall yesterday morning a large crowd of players and fans gathered over Mayor McPaddin’s Sunday ball ban. Chief Layton, under mayoral orders, questioned players. Judge Van Doren discharged the case for insufficient evidence. The dispute follows an Inter Church Federation meeting and a city edict against Sunday match games.

Death of Oscar Tabor at Monmouth Memorial Hospital

Oscar Tabor died Monday morning at 2 o clock while a patient at Monmouth Memorial Hospital. The body will be shipped from Atlantic Highlands to Oxford North Carolina by funeral director Oliver Smallwood. The deceased was thirty eight years old and is survived by a brother.

The Long Branch Gun Club held an all day shoot on their grounds at Oakhill Avenue. Activities began at ten in the morning with ten target events ranging from five to twenty birds. Winners included C.
