Supreme Court Justice Swayze orders Hudson Sheriff to draw December juries under the present statute. Appeals court to pass on certiorari. quick decisions by the Supreme Court and Appeals Court sought to clear up the situation.
Trenton officials debate the Chancellor-Sheriff jury act as Justice Francis J. Sware directs Hudson County to draw juries for December under the Fielder law. He warns the referendum provision may be unconstitutional and seeks expedited review, citing timing issues and the act’s immediate effect vs later validity.
News from Savannah reports four farmers died in a pistol battle at Raines, Georgia, yesterday afternoon after theft of a pig from R. B. Holliday is said to have sparked the confrontation. Victims named are Harvey Smith Quinn Smith Troy King and R. B. Holliday. Separately in Tangier Morocco Mula Hafid, the former sultan, was captured by Bedouins during a pilgrimage from Medine to Mecca.
Negro burglars broke into Mrs. A. H. Neville’s Interlaken residence, discovered by Mrs Neville at her bureau, then fled. Four hours later another intruder escaped via roof and tree. Jewelry and glass pieces were taken. Intruders also entered Mrs. Warren H. Miller’s home. She found a kitchen window open after turning on lights, fled. J. W. Damm’s house was robbed of valuables. Vera Neville rode to Ocean township officials at daybreak to report the robberies.
Central Railroad train struck the automobile of Alfred Woolley of Belmar at the Tenth avenue crossing on Saturday night. Woolley and his six year old daughter Henrietta Woolley escaped injury, though the hood of the machine was slightly damaged.
Mrs Chandler of Third avenue yesterday cut twenty five or more roses from her outdoor bushes. The blossoms were very fragrant and scented the room with their odor.

Archibald L. Miller of Red Bank was chosen to fill the unexpired term of Horace P. Cook, acting mayor, after Cook resigned to become mayor. Miller, sworn in, supported purchasing two Robinson automobile pumps. Bridge avenue paving contract went to Newton Paving Company at 1.49 per sq yd. Robinson Fire Apparatus to supply two piston pumps for 16,000 with 90 day delivery.
Judge Dungan granted a non-suit after evidence in the case of St John Clarke of New York seeking 7500 for architect and engineer services on the Long Branch concrete pier. The Ocean Construction Company and others were sued. receiver Durand and partners defended. The pier’s work changed hands, then was abandoned, and the Long Branch Pier Company later bought the project.
At a Keyport meeting the Yacht Club announced committees including auditors, finance and entertainment. The Keyport Literary Club elected officers led by President Mrs J P Brower and others. The funeral of John Rhodes of Oceanport set for Thursday at Rhodes home with James B Morting Post G A R attending.
More than twenty five Chamber of Commerce members attended the November City Hall meeting where the annual election was postponed due to missing secretary and treasurer reports. The treasurer’s report is ready but the secretary’s data is still promised. a complete officers’ report will be given next week.
Trenton November 11. Governor Taylor appointed the Board of Canvassers to meet Tuesday November 25 to canvass the election vote and declare results on the governor race and the New Jersey Reform act. Members include Senators John W Slocum Monmouth and Wm K Ramsay Middlesex Democrats Auden Colgate Essex and Wm W Smalley Somerset Republicans. Governor Taylor will sit as president.
Philip L. Cohen owner of the Hillwood Recreation bowling alleys offers a silver loving cup to the local firemen’s team tournament. Entries open once players’ names are enrolled with every fire company eligible to join. Cohen may withdraw the trophy if competition is not obtained.
Washington November 11 Joseph Tumulty is viewed as qualified for any office and may be named chairman of the Democratic National Committee if McCoombs accepts the Ambassadorship to France. Meanwhile local notices report postponement of a dance by the Woman's Auxiliary of Branchport Hose Co due to a ball schedule.

Cuban league star Arragon, a premier shortstop, is soon to leave Monmouth Memorial Hospital after a knee fracture. He walked unaided, plans to sail to New York then Cuba, and may resume baseball when March practice begins with the Boston Nationals. An all around player, he led the league in shortstop fielding and ranked high in batting averages as of November 1.
Plans outline the annual Long Branch Lodge memorial service to be held on the first Sunday evening in December at Broadway Theatre. An eminent national speaker is expected, with electric effects and stage decorations. The committee includes Arthur Susann as chairman and Mayor Bryant B Newcomb among others. Attendance will be controlled for sacred observance.
Commissioner of Public Safety Thomas W. Arrowsmith and Architect Clarence D. Wilson visited New York to examine new police stations for interior planning. They favor moving the recorders court to City Hall second floor to free space for police needs and reroute prisoner access through a side entrance. They also reviewed Gamewell office needs for a fire alarm system and considered a rear tower for the apparatus.
