Red Bank Memorial Day Parade Braved Heavy Rain

A large Memorial Day parade in Red Bank faced a heavy shower about ten minutes after starting under Samuel J. Sleeper Camp auspices. Despite rain, some 600 paraders completed the route with civil and fraternal groups leading, and events continued including cemetery services and school processions.

Eatontown trolley accident injures young woman

A double trolley crash near the Oceanport station injures Miss Anna Belle Vandermark of Eatontown and disrupts service. Spreading rails caused both cars to jump tracks as crowds scrambled. traffic resumed after a wrecking crew worked.

Rain postpones Freehold races with crowd on grounds

A heavy thunder shower halted Freehold Driving Association races just as to start. Races postponed to tomorrow afternoon with free admission. About 2700 spectators on site despite weather. Police Appear in New Helmets for Summer Wear

Police officers appeared yesterday in their summer helmets. They presented a neat image despite a rainy afternoon that soaked the hats, which remained unfazed by the bath.

Robert C Phillips Dead at Red Bank

Robert C Phillips a druggist died at his Throckmorton avenue home aged 37 after araemic poisoning. He leaves a wife and daughter Dorothy, two brothers Norvan and Edger and sister Mrs Job Hayes. Funeral Saturday at 2 pm from the house with interment at Little Silver. He was affiliated with Neptune Council Jr O U A M while in North Long Branch.

Sight-Seeing Car Meets Mishap Near Freehold

A sightseeing touring car from Ocean garage on Broadway left yesterday for the county seat and two miles from Freehold the front steering rod broke. The driver used emergency brakes but the vehicle veered and struck a roadside fender. Passengers reported injured but all were unharmed and brought home by arriving autos. the car was left for repairs.

Young Man Stricken by Paralysis In Neptune

William Foley, a 25 year old plumber and boarder at the Neptune House on Fleet Avenue, suffered a stroke Tuesday. He was moved to Monmouth Memorial Hospital in Hyer and Flock’s ambulance the next day. Doctor Pilice noted paralysis and Foley's condition remained serious with slight improvement after admission.

Carnival Committee Selects Officers for 1912

Carnival officers for 1912 were chosen at City Hall by the amusement committee of the board of trade. George E. Poland is chairman with G M L Sacks as vice chairman J H Davis Jr as treasurer and Daniel Doran as secretary. New committees will be added and the doll carnival and big carnival groups will cooperate to enlarge the festival. A special committee will report on electing a carnival queen by popular vote and a $40 prize will be offered for best arch design for the arches across the avenue grand stand by school pupils through Leon Cubberley.

J J Flanagan Badly Hurt In Red Bank Auto Collision

John J Flanagan of Headden s Corner was badly concussed when his wagon was struck by a New York resident s automobile Saturday at Red Bank. He was knocked unconscious, carried to the Central Hotel, then to his home under Dr R Browsing Wilson s care. The incident occurred as Flanagan pulled from Maple Avenue onto West Front Street.

Weather Bureau Forecast For New Jersey Through Saturday

The Weather Bureau predicts fair and warmer conditions tonight and Saturday in New Jersey interior areas with north winds. Observations from Long Branch show 57 at 8 am, 56 humidity at 8 am, 40 at 10 am, barometer 30.00, wind northwest at 24 mph, with 36 mph peak in past four hours.

New Phone System Installed Here Without A Hitch

Rain disrupted the May Pole drill at Washington Park and dampened festival turnout but the Long Branch Military Band concert thrilled hundreds. The new common battery switchboard at the New York Telephone Company in Third Avenue operated flawlessly with 98 o'clock cutover. The system promises reduced party lines and bell ringing, with seven cables and 6,600 pairs of wires feeding the main frame. Invitations are issued for the marriage of Miss Riva Norton and Willard Sawyer, to be held at the Norton home in West Long Branch.

Storm damage from recent electrical storms across Bayshore region

Recent severe storms caused extensive damage in Keyport Matawan Keansburg Ideal Beach Port Monmouth and Middletown. Lightning struck a 76 year old silver maple in Keyport demolished trees and damaged property. Several homes chimneys and wires were destroyed or blown over, with panicked shocks and fruit crops affected.

Grand Army Orator Speaks of Perils at Memorial Program

An Evening Memorial Day program by James B Morris Post No 46 G A R at City Hall drew limited attendance due to threatening weather. Veterans, Sons of Veterans delegates, and local officials listened as Rev John G Lovell delivered remarks on Memorial Day and moral duty. The event featured addresses, recitations, music, and a parade, ending with the Old Glory March.
