Black Worker Arrested After Spring Lake Assault

Charles Martin, a southern Black employee of George Woolley, was jailed at Freehold after a violent incident near the Monmouth Hotel in Spring Lake. He allegedly assaulted a young white servant girl, tried to expose himself, and was found drunk under a boardwalk. He faces grand jury action amid public scrutiny. the victim’s name is withheld.

Fire destroys old crematory plant west of Myrtle avenue

A midnight blaze consumed the old crematory building west of Myrtle avenue. caretaker Carl Goodman and nearby resident Morris Wood alerted firefighters, who laid over 2000 feet of hose due to no nearby hydrants. The wooden structure burned, leaving brick furnaces intact and an estimated loss around 600 dollars. The Seaboard Utilization Company owned the site of about ten acres.

Belmar woman sues two railroads for 10000 in death suit

Mrs Jane Janskin of Belmar pursued a 10000 damage suit against Pennsylvania and New York Long Branch railroads before Judge Nelson Y Dungan at Freehold. The case traces to her husband James F Janskin a Belmar baker killed October 14, 1902 at the Sixteenth Avenue crossing. Three prior trials produced 8000, 6000 verdicts and a non suit in the third.

Red Bank Nines Take Double Loss in Local Games

Red Bank hosts two games at the fair grounds with Branch enthusiasts watching the Nationals struggle to a 10 to 4 loss in the morning and a 14 to 7 defeat in the afternoon. Two Horse Thieves Arrested Near Middletown

Detective J B Rue of Red Bank captured Leo Paldertinger and John Ganbash of Passaic near the Halfmile road Middletown township. They faced a 7 30 pm hearing before Squire Theodore F Sniffen and were held on 500 bail each. Bail unavailable they were taken to Freehold jail by Detective Elwood Minagh. The men were not tied to the Rosenberg gang. They had been working for William J Leonard publisher of papers at Atlantic Highlands Sea Bright Red Bank Oceanic and other towns. They attempted to sell a horse for 60 after absconding with Leonard's horse from a pasture Monday night.
