Bryan Visits Red Bank Impresses with Scenery and Maples

Hon William Jennings Bryan toured Red Bank and Elberon with Col G B M Harvey after a St Luke's Church address on The Prince of Peace. He praised Rumson road oceanfront scenery, especially red maples at Shadow Lawn, ordering toppers to be sent to Fairview Nebraska.

East Jersey League Track Meet At Red Bank Close

The sixth annual East Jersey High School League track meet, held at Monmouth County Fairgrounds Red Bank, saw Asbury Park win with 28 points Red Bank second with 25 Chattle Long Branch third 17 Perth Amboy fourth 13 Neptune fifth 11 Atlantic Highlands 1 Point Pleasant and Manasquan not represented. Records fell in 440 yard dash hammer throw and shot put with F McCormick Perth Amboy and John Quinn Red Bank setting marks. Notable exhibitions by Sheridan and Porter highlighted a day of strong performances and celebrations under YMCA sponsorship.

Memorial Day Observance Planned by Vets and Sons

Final arrangements by James B. Morris Post and Camp set for Memorial Day. Graves flagged. At 8 a m veterans and Sons of Veterans march from G A R Hall to Greenlawn cemetery for services led by Commander Benjamin Eldridge with Lincoln's Gettysburg Address. Graves decorated, then services at West Long Branch and City Hall later.

Obituary: John B Connett Dies at 66 in Rumson Flats

John B Connett a machinist and former Manasquan resident died Saturday from tuberculosis at 66. He lived near Black Point Rumson with his widow and four children all residing locally. He is survived by a sister Mrs Charles Haight of Manasquan. Funeral was at his home conducted by Rev J C Lord with burial in Bay View cemetery Atlantic Highlands directed by Harry C Fay.

Illness at worship: Bath Avenue resident revived at church

John Van Nortwick, an aged resident of Bath avenue, was taken ill during services at the First Reform church. He fainted but was quickly revived and returned to his home.

Memorial Day Program and Park Events Schedule

Memorial Day program at Ci Hall features a 2 pm patriotic exercise with Rev Dr Dare of Simpson Memorial Church. Washington Park opens at 8 pm with a Long Branch Military Band concert. Ice cream and strawberry festival, 10 am Nationals vs Red Bank at Shrewsbury Ave Fair Grounds. 3 pm return game at the same diamond. Long Branch Gun Club all day shoot opens 10:2? am at Leyalton with 8 pm lawn dancing. Second annual Long Branch Cycle Club meet at Stengel track at 2 pm. Music by Long Branch Military Band. Golf 10 am 36 hole medal play with handicaps. 2 pm finish of Saturday handicap Sachs versus Seasongood.

Red Bank headpin tournament crowns Victor Swenson

In Monmouth street YMCA alleys Red Bank twelve bowlers contested a close, crowded headpin tournament. Victor Swenson won with 105, earning a gold watch fob. Elwood Ivins totaled 103 as runner up. Others included Howard Hance 92 and Edwin Conover 91.

Pier construction payrolls rise as 125 workers join day shift

In Ocean Park the number of men on the new pier project increases to 125 with night shift planned. Most are carpenters at work on buildings and booths including an entrance arch. Local workers receive priority and payrolls total about $2,500 weekly, supporting summer circulation as illumination wires go up for a prominent bright park display visible for miles.

Train Kills Two Men at Bayway Crossing

A C R R passenger train arriving twenty minutes late after a Bayway crossing accident killed two men and two horses. The men driving failed to hear the approaching train, and the buggy was wrecked. The delay affected mail delivery at nearby stations.

The Weather Bureau forecast for the late hours ending Tuesday calls for fair skies and light variable winds. Observations from the display station at 43 North Broadway Long Branch show a barometer around 30.17 inches and wind at 6 miles per hour from the south.

Murder in Exchange Place Stabs Victim Through Heart

A man identified as Rocco Cropella killed Rocco Truglia in Exchange Place near Baseball Park with a ten inch stiletto. The weapon pierced the heart, witnesses said, as Cropella fled toward Bath Avenue and High Street. Police pursued, with Constable Tomaini arresting Rocco Notoro and others aiding Walling’s investigation. An autopsy confirmed a heart stab as the cause of death. Coroner Purdy and Prosecutor Applegate were alerted. Detectives Minugh and Rue joined the case.

Fire Response and Auto Crash in Elberon

Alonzo Slocum of the Elberon hose wagon responded to a fire alarm when Alfred Nathan’s limousine caught fire on Lincoln Avenue. The Elberon, Independent, West End, and Oceanic fire wagons arrived, extinguishing the blaze with minimal damage. Patrolman Cunneen investigated a car crash into a decorative lamp at Lincoln and Ocean avenues, noting repeated incidents at the site.

Long Branch Building and Loan to Distribute 60000

At Friday night’s directors meeting the Long Branch Building and Loan Association adopted a resolution to close the 24th series. This will distribute 60000 among holders of matured shares. Members must obtain an order from secretary Theodore Howland and present it to secretary Thomas R. Woolley.

Death of George Wendling at Freehold Station

George Wendling, 29, of 200 West 42nd Street New York, died in the Central Railroad waiting room at Freehold after collapsing from apoplexy on a train near Matawan. He had just visited his father Christopher Wendling who had bought a farm near Milhurst three miles west of Freehold. Coroner Pardy viewed the body and burial permit was issued. Brothers Joseph William and Walter Wendling, all in New York, are listed.

Reception to delegates honors two D of L members

Pride of Belford Council No 151 hosted a Friday reception for Dot Seeley and Mrs. C Worden newly elected national representative and alternate at the Daughters of Liberty state session in Atlantic City. Over thirty Monmouth Council members joined, bouquets were given, speeches made, and refreshments served before final arrivals in Red Bank at midnight.

Indianola Neblood disaster claims twelve lives in three wrecks
