Captain L. B. Newman hosted James B. Morris Post 46 G A R veterans and their wives at his Patten avenue boathouse despite a bruised side from a previous injury. The event recalled Civil War era memories, featured phonograph selections and stories, and concluded with a supper. Attendees included Theodore Joline and several local couples.

Singing Preacher Ward to Preach at First Reform Church

New Carriers at Work in City Mail Service

Since May 1 Arthur Van Derveer and Benjamin Woolley have begun mail delivery on Broadway and Ocean avenue and at Station A. Van Derveer relieves Hayden, Van Cleat, Reid and Lackey. Hasker Thomas starts June 1 to lead evening delivery and reliefs. Clerk J Russell Errickson begins June 15. Westmaster Woolley seeks two more staff, a clerk and a carrier.

Heidemann Dies in Chair At State Prison

Frank Heidemann, Asbury Park florist who killed 10 year old Mary Smith at Deal Lake on Nov 9, was electrocuted in Trenton state prison. He displayed no fear, faced the death chair calmly and forgave the detective who helped trap him. The 55 second execution followed a 8 33 to 8 40 timeline, with a German farewell letter to his former employer Kruschka and prayers by Father Fish and Father Huber. Heidemann left a loving farewell to Kruschka and his son Herbert, asking for prayers from Mrs Delia Jackson.

Governor Wilson Schedules Summer Plans and Hearings

Governor Wilson will return to Trenton May 29 after a western trip. Hearings will follow on bills not acted on during the tour, including two liquor measures opposed by church groups. He plans a rest start June 6 at Lynne Conn and to occupy the Sea Girt cottage from July 15 as commander in chief of the state National Guard until August, possibly living there into September.

Second Zeppelin ship nearing completion in Germany

Local Undertaker Hit by Motorcycle in Red Bank

John J. Gorman of De Normandie avenue Fair Haven known as Hick and in charge of his father’s undertaking business on Monmouth Street Red Bank was struck on the left side by a motorcycle on Monday night. He was hurled onto the Mount residence lawn suffering a badly bruised leg and a wrenched shoulder while the rider, a colored man, was thrown clear. Gorman continued to attend to business despite the pain.
