Joseph Williams of Port Monmouth, captain of the steamer Mabel A., was badly cut Saturday night by a Polak known as Crazy Joe who works for Monmouth Of and Guano Company. Williams, mistaken for an enemy, fought back, knocking the assailant senseless. The Polak is badly battered and Williams is recovering with a bandaged head.

Locomotive Jumped Switch Near Auditor’s Office
The Pennsylvania Railroad locomotive No. 41 jumped the west switch of the New York and Long Branch Railroad near the Auditor’s office at four o’clock yesterday morning. It left the tracks during a drill. the tender remained on. A Jamesburg wrecking crew placed the engine back on the rails by 8:20. The cowcatcher was torn from the front and requires repair.

Settlement Reached in Emmons Rail Fatality Case
The administrator of Edward H. Emmons of Long Branch announced a settlement with Central Railroad of New Jersey over his death at Red Bank on January 9 1909. Emmons a brakeman was crushed between cars while coupling a freight train leaving a minor son to dependent support. The railroad paid 1500 in settlement and the case was discontinued in federal court at Trenton under a United States statute.

David C. Cox, a New York Telephone Company executive, won $1 in a May 7 1910 assault suit against Robert C. Adamson Jr at Freehold.
