Five Mexican delegates arrive at Niagara Falls and head to the Clifton Hotel as the mediation talks open this afternoon. American and Mexican delegates prepare for the peace session while reports from Saltillo suggest a desperate battle near Paredon, but rebels deny intensified fighting.

Slocum to act as New Jersey governor this summer

John W. Slocum of Long Branch will serve as acting Governor for at least two weeks beginning next month while Governor Fielder departs June 2. Fielder plans June 9 arrival in Madison Wisconsin for governors conference and will stay through the session’s end. They will relocate to Sea Girt for the summer with private secretary Herrmann, and Fielder will visit Trenton each Tuesday. If Mexican tensions rise, New Jersey National Guard maneuvers may be moved to Sea Girt.

Powers Bond Seizure Tangles Shrewsbury Insurance Case

In Newark Vice Chancellor Stevens ordered Harry L. Powers of Shrewsbury to post a $60,000 bond before collecting insurance on property allegedly taken from the Little Silver Sauce Company of Long Branch. The case, filed by the Little Silver firm, centers on disputed ownership of factory personal property at the Hazard factory in Shrewsbury. Florence Auersperg also obtained a $35,000 bond to protect a $30,000 mortgage, tied to Powers’ control of the same insurance proceeds and assets.

Additional daily bus trips to Oakhurst and Sea Bright start May 2

Beginning Saturday May 2 an extra trip will run daily to Oakhurst and Sea Bright from Second Avenue at 6 o'clock p m and return at 8 30 p m. Buses departing for Oakhurst at 10 a m will now leave at 11 a m, and those starting at 6 o'clock to Oakhurst and Sea Bright will depart at 6 30 arriving at Second Avenue at 7 o'clock.

Dr Daniel Woolley Dies in Brooklyn at 63

Dr Daniel Morris Woolley of 76 Clarkson Street Brooklyn died Monday night from liver trouble in his 64th year. Born in Long Branch, he built a large Brooklyn medical practice. Two Hundred Fifty Die in Guatemala Race War

A message from New Orleans reports two hundred fifty killed and eight hundred wounded in a three day race war between Indians and negroes on United Fruit plantations near Puerto Barrios Guatemala. An American negro’s attempt to woo Indian queen Narada sparked the uprising. The queen was later tortured by her tribe. Other items note improving doctor Britten, a license inspector renting a Sea Bright cottage, efforts to address fire site conditions, city hall painting, water wagons back in service, Ocean Avenue improvements, and a Long Branch wallpaper shop advert.

New York May 20 Supreme Court Justice Seabury ruled Becker cannot have the confession of Dago Frank Chofiel admitted to show exoneration from complicity in the Rosenthal murder. Principal witness McInerny testified to the confession while warden and chaplain heard it. Manton pressed for the testimony to be part of the record for appeal if needed, while the jury was sent out.
