Railroad Bridge at Red Bank Opens for Travel
The Red Bank railroad bridge is now open for travel after sixteen months of construction. Over 3,000,000 tons of steel and 10,000 tons of concrete were used. Trains have been running on a single track since April 23, with work continuing to complete the project.
Finest Bridge Opens Over North Shrewsbury River
The New York and Long Branch Railroad opened its fine new bridge at Red Bank this morning with both tracks in service. The southbound track began April 28 and now complete, travel is uninterrupted. Contractor George B. Spearin completed eighty pedestal foundations and end abutments by mid March 1914, with piles driven ten feet below river bed and cofferdams, stone riprap, and concrete totaling over ten thousand tons for the project.

Fire destroys Edgewood Farm in North Lakewood blaze
A large fire at Edgewood Farm in North Lakewood killed two horses and two cows and destroyed two barns and out-buildings. The blaze began in the horse barn at 4 45 pm, spreading to poultry and machinery structures with losses near ten thousand dollars. Neighbors and farm workers rescued other animals as roofs collapsed about thirty minutes after discovery. The milk house was spared and the main house suffered limited damage.
