$100 000 Gift Promises Red Bank Hospital

A Red Bank donor Mrs Peter P Collier widow of the late Peter F Collier provides near 100000 for a new non sectarian hospital to be built at Spring and Wallace streets under architect Joseph Swannell. Dr Peter P Rafferty manages plans and funds while remaining silent on specifics. The hospital would memorialize the late Mr Collier and aims for a prestigious stone structure in a prime town site.

Summer Hotel Opens at Shrewsbury River site

Sea Bright contractor Robert J. Walsh completes improvements to the former Jackson Club grounds turning them into a popular summer hotel on the Shrewsbury River. A large addition expands the main building, now housing thirty rooms, and the club house areas are being renovated. Walsh has ordered new row boats for guests.

Cycle Club Gala Day Plans For Memorial Meet

Plans for the Long Branch Cycle Club second annual race meet on Memorial Day at Stengel's track near Eatontown boulevard. Eatontown Couple Married at Local Methodist Parsonage

Harold Aumack son of John Aumack of Main Street Eatontown and Nellie Van Brunt daughter of William Van Brunt of Pine Brook were married Monday night at the Eatontown Methodist Church Parsonage on Lewis Street by Rev. C Lowden Knight. Aumack formerly worked for Patrick Drennen and now works at Deal Beach. They will reside with the groom’s father for the present.

Auto Thieves Sentenced Five Years in State Prison

Olen Drayton and Benjamin Cham bers, known thieves from Philadelphia and Mauch Chunk, stole Frank Russell’s machine in Newark and fled to Sea Girt. Judge Thomas A. Davis at Trenton’s Quarter Sessions Court sentenced them to five years in state prison on Monday. A meeting of the 5. & 1. B. & Y. Club is set for Branchport club house Wednesday evening May 17, all members urged to attend.

Firefighter at Eighty Keeps Vigil for Oceanport Brigade

John Ward of Center Street Oceanport, a founder of the Oceanport Hook and Ladder Company No 1, nearing his eightieth year, fell ill but attempted to join the fire crew last Wednesday. His daughter-in-law then escorted him to safety while he watched from a chair as the alarm sounded. He plans to retire from active firefighting though his interest remains keen.

Hotel man marks fiftieth birthday at Atlantic Highlands

Edward Oakes proprietor of the Columbus Hotel in Atlantic Highlands celebrated his fiftieth birthday with quiet observations and a celebratory banquet after earlier receiving many congratulatory packages from friends. He started in Holmdel in 1861, managed hotels near Highlands, then purchased the Columbus Hotel in Atlantic Highlands in 1891 and has run it since, save for a lease period. He has been married twenty-nine years to Katherine Viering and has four children. among gifts is a Civil War sword once used by Col. Ackerman’s Anderson’s Aouaves, 62d New York Volunteers, with a U S engraving.

Builder Suffering Injury From Garage Spike Accident

Willard French a builder from Arlington was injured yesterday afternoon at a Keansure can building site when a spike pierced the fleshy part of his right hand. He received first aid at the scene and was sent home for further treatment.

Charles H. Bailey of Atlantic Highlands sought 10000 in damages from the Drainage Commission and Borough for altering Many Mind Creek. A long case at Freehold led to a new trial order and a verdict of six cents for nominal damages after appellate reversal of a prior non-suit. The creek work dated to 1904 with partial bed changes and assessments to nearby landowners.

Rothschild Dies in New York After Long Illness

V Henry Rothschild manufacturer and philanthropist died yesterday at his East Sixty Seventh Street home after weeks of illness. Born 1835 in Germany he built W Henry Rothschild & Co in New York and expanded to plants in New Jersey employing thousands. He helped found Mount Sinai Hospital and served as director of Montefiore Home. He married Josephine Wolf in 1866 and leaves five children including Y Sidney Rothschild and Clarence G Rothschild.
