Greenlawn Cemetery Elects Officers and Plans Water Plant

The Greenlawn Cemetery Association elected new officers for the year led by President Edward B. Lacour and approved installing a water plant at a cost not exceeding 500 to supply 1200 feet of piping. George Hampton serves as superintendent as memorial day preparations begin. The auxiliary supports this effort and previously funded an iron fence.

Memorial Day Races Draw Big Local Interest

Long Branch Cycle Club prepared for Memorial Day outdoor meet with seven events including a four mile club only race. Prizes arranged by Charles E. Morris, officials to be announced, and by laws approved on first reading. New members Everett Slocum and Frank Smith. many entries expected from nearby cities. prizes to be shown at Charles Morris bicycle store. Frick Lyceum Red Bank becomes Keiths Lyceum with vaudeville acts and moving pictures scheduled nightly through Thursday.

Marriage of Thomas Catchpole and Clara Sanford at Red Bank

Thomas dward Catchpole of Lake Geneva Wisconsin and Clara Wolcott Sanford of Batontown married Sunday night at the First Methodist Church parsonage in Red Bank. Inauguration Date Change Defeated by One Vote

Washington May 17 A joint resolution to move inauguration from March fourth to the last Thursday in April failed by one vote in the House. The measure would extend terms to that day and allow weather and security benefits, but 139 to 70 stopped it. Two New Jersey reps voted no. debate followed pro and con points about hotels and parade conditions.

Matteson Family Returns to Red Bank Parsonage

Rev Dr and Mrs Matteson and daughter Dorothy return from California to find Ladies' Aid Society recurtained the parsonage with a ready dinner. Dr Matteson attended the Northern Baptist Conference in Chicago and spoke on its work during his absence.

Nurses Debate Nurse Registration At New Jersey Meeting

Thirty trained nurses attended the New Jersey State Association of Trained Nurses meeting at the Nurses' Home in this city. The discussion centered on registration with talks by Miss Bertha J. Gardner Miss Grace M. Carmichael Miss Helen Demerest and Miss Marguerite C. Squier. Musical selections by Miss Josephine Walah and remarks on organization membership followed. Refreshments concluded the event praised for its well run program.

Axe Attack Fears Man Near Red Bank

George Foster Rawlins, renter of the Chapin property on Swimming River road, was attacked Saturday night by a New York farmhand he employed. Rawlins escaped as the assailant, briefly armed with an axe, fled toward a train to New York. the man recovered and was allowed to leave after being escorted by Detective Minagh.

South Shrewsbury Club Holds Special Meeting

The South Shrewsbury Ice Boat and Yacht Club will hold a special meeting tomorrow evening at the Atlantic avenue clubhouse where clam stews will be served by Captain John Van Note. A large renovation along the Monmouth Beach shore introduces a three story casino connected to an ocean view building with a 250 by 50 foot reinforced concrete pool. Thomas W. An ordinance creating a detective bureau in the police department was introduced and passed on first reading at a City Council meeting last night. Hotel Gordon Leased to New York Hotelier

Hotel Gordon, rebuilt at a cost of 12000, has been leased to George B Selover of New York. The Gordon Realty Company, with Henry M Fitch in charge, arranged the lease and Selover plans to reopen the hotel a week from next Saturday. The 64 guest chambers and 18 baths include a first floor dining room parlor and cafe. Selover aims to make Hotel Gordon a popular medium sized coast hotel. Mrs. Charles Stryker of Matawan died after hospitalization and operation, with body sent to Matawan by Hyer & Flock.

Eatontown Fire Alarm Provokes Smoke Scare

Eatontown firefighters were called Saturday afternoon after a false alarm. Allan Van Brunt, resident behind Thomas Dickinson's barber shop, started a fire in his store but the draft failed and smoke issued from doors and windows before someone reported the incident.

A. B. Borden of Borden’s Condensed Milk Company plans a city milk shop on Brighton avenue in the former A. Graf premises serving milk and dairy goods. Fifteen horses and wagons arrive to begin service. Also noted: Anthony M. Holmes of Long Branch Banking Company takes a two week vacation and will spend part of it in Long Branch.

Two Sisters Living Alone Targeted by Unknown Shooter

Two sisters Miss Hettld and Miss Erne Peterson, Norwegian residents of Red Bank near the LaViena cottage on Newman Springs Road, awoke late Saturday to a revolver firing near their home. Detective Elwood Minugh searched the premises but found no clues as to the assailant, who fled.

No Decision Yet on Electric Arches in Red Bank

The Red Bank mayor and council discussed street lighting and related issues in a regular meeting. They deferred a decision on electric arches until Broad and Wallace streets are surveyed and light output assessed.
