City Streets Report Details Extensive Improvements

City Street Commissioner Kiernan presented a monthly streets report noting improvements on South Lincoln avenue under the trolley and railroad trestle with bricks and stone, dredging suggestion for the brook, and repairs on Long Branch avenue. Major work includes Joline Sixth avenues gravelling, crosswalk rebuilds, Belmont and Academy Alley regrading, and new equipment like an asphalt mixer and steam roller enhancing Broadway Third avenue and Ocean Avenue roads. A warehouse shed for water wagons was completed.

Newcomb Oversees Long Branch Commission Install

The Long Branch city commission is installed with Bryant B. Newcomb as mayor and team heads named. Depart­ments include Frank L. Howland finances, Thomas W. Arrowsmith public safety, Marshall Woolley streets, John W. Flock parks, with Winfield Warwick city clerk and Maude F Finn as stenographer. A rose bouquet honors the new five, and the meeting adjourned after oath taking and appointing temporary officers.

Three Brooklyn boys sail self built canoe across Narrows

Otto Stoebo, George Hedfors, and Hans Modeback, all of Brooklyn, started from Fort Hamilton in a homemade sixteen foot canoe with a sail, aiming for Princes Bay. A strong wind capsized them about halfway as Captain Thomas Dumont of the steamer Keansburg spotted the scene and organized a rescue, with the boys enduring the capsize without complaint and salvaging their sail afterward.

McMahon Memorial Clock Presented at Ocean Grove

The McMahon Memorial clock, six feet high, was presented this afternoon to the Ban croft Rest home for older ministers and families at Ocean Grove by Mrs. L. G. Irwin of the Sea Bright M. and Church auxiliary. Chimes play Westminster words every hour. A bronze plate bears In memory of Josephine McMahon. The event drew large attendance from Sea Bright, Asbury Park, and Ocean Grove church societies.

Robbery Plan Averted as Truck Is Fired Upon En Route

Two New Jersey Tobacco Co. delivery men, a driver Johnson and clerk Rogers, narrowly escaped an ambush between Freneau and Morganville on a large auto truck. Detectives Walling and Minagh pursued leads, while a supposed three-man robbery plot near Elkwood Park collapsed after a conspirator warned the company in a letter. Bullets shattered side curtains as the attack occurred, but no suspects were found.

Big Rise in Litigation as New Docket Opened

Old Council Holds Its Last Meeting In Long Branch

Long Branch officials concluded the retiring administration with a farewell adjournment. President Joline and City Clerk Newcomb were honored for service amid praise from Reed and Fay.
