The First Presbyterian Church hosts a Monday evening concert led by Prof. F. K. Ball. A 15 member professional orchestra performs a balanced program of works by Wagner Gounod and others, with selections from Faust and Henry VIII incidental music, promising a premier musical event in the city.
Chattle High will face Asbury Park tomorrow afternoon at the Division street diamond in the East Jersey High School League. Asbury Park struggles in the percentage column but retains a loyal crowd hoping for a breakthrough.
Captain E. Walt Havens of Belford caught the first sturgeon of the season weighing about fifty pounds in his pound. The fish was consigned to a New York dealer.
Mrs. Edgar Wilson of Keansburg was surprised at home on her 55th birthday by relatives and friends. Guests brought a large cake with 55 candies, and the evening featured music games and conversation as well wishers departed with many happy returns.
Rev. F. P. Sweezey rector of Christ Episcopal Church Shrewsbury joins John Lippincott and James Connelly as representatives at the Episcopal diocesan convention in Atlantic City.

Left on Tour of Europe, Prank Marx the well known Shrewsbury cattle dealer sails from New York on the Lusitania for a tour of London and other European cities. He will be away several months with business run by his youngest son Martin Marx during his absence.
The Washington Camp Patriotic Sons of America in Sea Bright organized an initiation Thursday night with ten new members. A Red Bank Camp team conducted the ceremony in Bowsers Hall. Recruits included John Court C H Pack Albert Fisher Tony Jackson Charles Covert Trevonian White Rusme Charles Truax J Yeo. The initiates delivered short addresses as part of the event and community notices followed.
London May 12 Lady Decies formerly Miss Vivian Gould underwent surgery for appendicitis and was reported doing well two hours later. Public hoax claims that she was presented to the King and Queen were spread to mislead about her condition. Hendon May 12 J Armstrong Drexel survived a Bleriot crash as the craft fell fifty feet. he was shaken but alive while onlookers fainted.
Mrs E M Beach of Cedar avenue West Long Branch entertained the Ygdrasill Club at a Tuesday night chicken dinner in the Globe Hotel Red Bank. Members traveled by stage and several couples attended. The menu featured chicken soup fish new potatoes olives asparagus roast chicken salmon salad ice cream strawberries cake and demi tasse. The club voted Mrs Beach the most pleasing hostess.
William P. Frey and his son Howard Frey live on Monmouth Street Red Bank and are repainting their corner house at Bridge Avenue and Chestnut Street. The residence is occupied by Daniel C. Johnson and family.
Board of Health debated health ordinances during last night’s session presided by President Slocum. The full board was present and Solicitor Stevens will meet soon to take up and consider the ordinances.
City Council and street committee met at City Hall to plan asphalt repairs and oiling of streets. The repair plant began producing material yesterday and a gang works on Third avenue with Broad way slated for improvement.
The clay bird shoot on the grounds at the Old Pleasure Bay House was postponed to an indefinite date after insufficient entries prevented starting the trophy event. Sweepstakes were completed and shooters were present though the big contest could not proceed. Tomorrow a Sugar Bowl event and Philip Schmidt’s record breaker will be watched on the blackboard.

A late night blaze gutted the upper part of a Norwood avenue dwelling owned by William Fritz. Mr. and Mrs. Addison Maps narrowly escaped with only the clothes on their backs as neighbors and fire crews battled the flames. The origin remains unknown and the Maps family lost all belongings.

A three ton iron girder is being set inside the entrance of St. James' R. C. Church on Broad street Red Bank to reinforce the supports under the choir loft. Matthews Brothers of Red Bank oversee the project.

Impressive religious services marked the funeral of Trevonian E. Hyer at Lakewood Presbyterian Church. A home service preceded the rites where Masons from Long Branch Lodge No. 78 and Lakewood Lodge joined relatives. Rev. Dr. Miller and Rev. Dr. Robinson led prayers, with burial at Hope Presbyterian Cemetery.
The County Board of Assessment and Taxes held its annual May conference with local assessors from across the county at Freehold today. Representing Lang Branch were H. P. Bennett John W. Flock and William Beatty. The meeting reviewed county conditions discussed valuations and interpreted newly enacted laws. The gathering found the session lively and useful, with time for ideas and social exchange after business.
Lester Haynes of Batontown is employed as chauffeur for C D Purroy of the same town to fill a vacancy left by Charles Megathern who has moved to New York State.

Leaders from all walks of life gathered at the Catholic Club in New York to honor Cardinal James Gibbons for his golden jubilee as priest and silver jubilee as a prince of the Holy Roman Church. Justice Dowling gave the welcome. Cardinal Gibbons spoke as notables including Clarence H. Mackay and Nicholas Murray Butler attended.

Florerice West had Lawel Hollaway arrested on alleged assault and battery. The case appeared in Judge Charles Corn's court in the Heisley building Wednesday night but was postponed until May 24. Hollaway posted a $100 bond for his appearance. The incident is said to have occurred on a public street on April 10.
The Guild of the Golden Rule of Trinity Episcopal Church Red Bank held a sociable Tuesday night at Mr and Mrs Henry J Rosevelt residence on West Front Street. Members attended in good numbers and enjoyed a fine social time.

Wireless dispatch reports the Ward line steamer Merida from Progreso Yucatan cut nearly in two and sunk in 35 fathoms after collision with United Fruit Company’s Admiral Farragut off Cape Charles. Merida with 187 passengers, all rescued and transferred to Farragut and Hamilton, later moved to Norfolk. Some crew remained unaccounted for until recontact said they boarded the Hamilton. The Farragut’s forward hold flooded and the ship proceeded to Norfolk.
The New Brunswick District Home Missionary Society auxiliaries met at Simpson Memorial Church and concluded their annual convention yesterday afternoon. Mrs. W. H. Walsh of Long Branch was elected corresponding secretary, with re-elected officers save for that post. Eighty members enjoyed luncheon while visitors from Vine Land and Red Bank attended. Mrs. Wells presented the feature paper.
The West Long Branch Board of Health met yesterday to reorganize and reelect its officers. Walter H. Correll was named president R. R. Hughes secretary and J. D. VanNote treasurer. George R. Waters appeared and took the oath of office after previously saying he would not qualify.
The trustees of the Keansburg M. E Church elected officers for the coming year. Charles A. Smith was chosen president, Edward Thorne as vice president, William P. Doda as secretary, and William Randolph as treasurer.

Dr. Garrett C. Hoagland of Keyport died Thursday morning in Memphis Tennessee where he had gone for his health. The body is now en route to Keyport accompanied by Mrs. Hoagland who was with the doctor.
Miss Mabel Fowler and Edward H Smith both of Keyport wed Tuesday evening at the parish church with W. E. Compton officiating. The couple will reside in Jersey City where the bridegroom is employed as a chauffeur.
