Tentative 1914 City Budget Fixes at $228,064.20

Comptroller Frank Howland presents the 1914 tentative city budget totaling 228,054.20 with 176,000 to be raised on the city duplicate and 346,064.20 in estimated receipts including cash on hand. Beach and Park funding includes 4,000 for weekend concerts and 7,250 total Beach and Park items. Continuous details show receipts from franchise taxes licenses fines and other sources, with 1913 notes 98,000 and county dues 20,000 subtracted to reach the net disbursement plan of 45,274.81 on the Sixth Page.

Long Branch Musical Club poised for major concert turnout

The Long Branch Musical Club reported a successful final rehearsal with director Mr. Carre expressing high satisfaction and predicting a stronger performance than the first concert. The program features New York artists, a sacred cantata Victory Divine by Dr. Marks, and guest pianist Mrs. Gregory with strong chorus support. organizers appeal for public financial help to insure continuation next season and a full house at the large auditorium.

Mian Injured by an Angry Horse

A driver for John Pearsall’s fruit business was kicked by a horse after efforts to feed it in a shed failed. He suffered a bruised leg and other injuries but was treated at home and then showed improvement. The wagon wheel was damaged in the incident near Oceanic.

The Amerigo Vespucci Society plans a parade before its 16th annual ball and reception at the Lyceum. Ocean Grove Votes Against Borough Change

In Ocean Grove a spirited election defeated a move to borough government by 33 votes. Total 575 ballots cast with 271 for changing governance and 804 against. district tally shows 164–156 in the second district and 107–148 in the first. The Ocean Grove Camp Meeting Association will continue governing the resort.

Funeral for Albert Gaskill at Simpson Memorial Church

Albert II Gaskill son of Mr and Mrs George H Gaskill of Jane Street died young and his funeral was held at Simpson Memorial Church with pallbearers from Broadway Theatre. Burial at Greenlawn Cemetery under John G Sexton. Mrs Frank L Howland sang a solo and Dr Reed spoke.

Baptists Plan State Wide Meet and Foreign Born Work

Men of the Monmouth Association will meet at Red Bank Baptist Church next Wednesday for a supper and 15 minute talks on Baptist work in New Jersey. Discussion will cover foreign-born populations, church contact with youth, and needs for greater offerings as immigrant numbers rise 60,000 per year. The New Jersey Baptist Convention spent about 10,800 on foreign work and 36,665 on native-born church support last year.

Apaches Win Y M C A Contest Pennant Awarded

The Red Bank Y M C A youths wrap up a four team event with Apaches taking first place scoring 1712 points. Captain Robert Hitchings Jr led the team with 200 plus in athletics and 152 in gymnastics while classmates earned medals for perfect or near perfect attendance. Mihigans, Iroquois and Sioux followed with strong showings as prizes are distributed.

Library Benefit Promises Delightful Evening at Hall
