Arbor Day Tree Planting by Red Bank High Graduates

The Red Bank High School graduating class of 1911 planted a tree on school grounds, with 21 members contributing. The ceremony included removing last year's bow from the prior tree and adopting light blue and white ribbons for this year’s class, followed by refreshments and school-wide Arbor Day events in Long Branch and Shrewsbury.

Cold Blooded Murder: Husband Dies After Slaying Rebecca Pulley

Rebecca Pulley, shot by her husband Henry Pulley when she refused money, died six days later at Monmouth Memorial Hospital. Henry pulled her from their home on Abbotttsford Avenue to the sidewalk before fleeing along the N J Southern tracks. Both were taken to City Hall. Henry remains in custody as authorities anticipate a murder charge. The victim named her killer in a dying declaration as doctors reported the bullet pierced the liver. Four children, from two months to four years old, are cared for by the Long Branch Society for the Improvement of the Poor.

Flag Pole Replaces Wind-Downed Structure at Red Bank High

A sixty foot flag pole has been erected on the lawn of Red Bank High School on Branch Avenue to replace the one blown down by heavy winds last fall. The pole was furnished and installed by Essling Johnson Frake, Bridge Avenue contractors, and is tied to local community project efforts.

Salvation Army Agent Jailed After Liquor Trouble

John L. Lamphar an agent for the Salvation Army from Williamsport Penn. was jailed in Freehold after being found drunk in Riv erside avenue Red Bank. He testified he came from a wealthy family and loved liquor. He was fined 2.50 or thirty days then sent to jail and a fellow agent arrived to take charge of the outfit.

Union Service at Matawan Presbyterian Church

A union service will be held Sunday evening at Matawan Presbyterian Church. The combined church choirs will provide excellent singing. Samuel Carroll, leader of the Columbia College Street Volunteer Band, will attend and speak on missions. He will soon depart for India on mission work with the Y M C A.

New Garage to Open by Greene’s Hotel Rear

New York’s T. Cox has rented rear buildings of Greene's third Avenue Hotel and will open a garage. Cox is a first-rate mechanic who understands the automobile business thoroughly. Wins Midshipman Prize Isaac Schlossbach of Asbury Park has been accepted as a midshipman at the United States Naval Academy by the academic board. Schlossbach was among 140 of 350 who passed mental tests at mid April exams and was appointed second alternate by Congressman Benjamin F Howell.

New Physician at Keyport Opens Office Monday

Dr. Alvis Peteler of Jersey City rents the late Henry A. Young home on Front Street Keyport and will open an office Monday for treatment of cephal ic diseases especially eye ear nose and throat. He graduated from Peddie Institute and the University of Maryland and is a former Port Monmouth boy.

Trolley negotiations eye Red Bank to Port-au-Peck line

Talks are under way to build a trolley route from Red Bank to Long Branch passing Little Silver Branchport and Port au Peck then down Broadway Long Branch. Jersey Central Traction Company may head the effort with backing from Land and Loan Company. If this fails a second company stands ready. The route would run Branch avenue to Pinckney road then through private property for most of the journey. Communities would gain access to developing properties as transport access expands.

Cooper Twenty-Year Wedding Anniversary Celebrated

Mr and Mrs Herbert W Cooper marked their twentieth wedding anniversary at their Morris Avenue home with about sixty guests. Prof J Pitman West's orchestra provided music for dancing and merrymaking, followed by a buffet lunch and receiving many gifts.

Long Branch Man Makes a Flight in His Own Machine

Ralph L Bray of Long Branch built a Curtiss type biplane and made a first test flight at Monmouth Park. He lifted ten feet and flew 150 feet on an even keel before a slight crash damaged the front wheel and elevator. Bray plans to resume tests next week with improvements and support from Willis Wood as mechanic.

Musicale at Red Bank Promises Culture and Charity

A high class musicale was hosted at Mrs. George M. Sanat’s Broad street Red Bank home Thursday night by the First Baptist Church ladies. The Sunday school orchestra and violin and piano solos entertained with encores for Miss Marjorie Frost of Red Bank and Miss Reigleman of Rumson. Proceeds benefited the society’s treasury.
