Free West End Office to Get Coast-to-Coast Delivery Upgrade

The United States Postoffice Department plans to merge the West End post office with Long Branch to form a West End Station with free carrier delivery from the station. J. H. Wardle inspected the area, houses will be numbered, mail receptacles placed, and boxes rented by non-delivery patrons. The change aims to raise Long Branch to first-class status with annual receipts above 40,000.

Red Bank resident Taber Parker dies at 72

Taber Chadwick Parker longtime Red Bank builder and prominent local sportsman died at his Broad street home from heart trouble after a brief illness. He was 72, survived by widow Olivia Lippincott Parker and siblings, with services to be held at Trinity Church. Interment in Fair View cemetery. He helped build notable structures and the ice yacht Trip, and was active in hunting and trapshooting.

Campaign Against the White Plague in Monmouth County

The mass movement against tuberculosis in Monmouth County opened with a meeting at May Lee in Morris Avenue where a temporary group formed and a plan to equip a tubercular hospital was discussed. A committee including Acting Mayor Joline and Mrs. Harold Thompson will press officials next Wednesday to act within six months, with state help from Joseph Buyers.

Lamp Explodes Igniting Kitchen Fire In Lincoln Place

A lamp left burning in a Lincoln Place kitchen exploded near midnight, igniting fluids and scorching woodwork and furniture before fire teams from box 51 and the Dalys extinguished the blaze. Jake Sylvester narrowly escaped harm, and the incident prompted further notices of local events and sales including a new bungalow on Bath Avenue and High Street, a bridge sale at Edgemere, and a library fundraiser at Price's Hotel with tickets priced 50 cents.

Red Bank Veterans Plan Memorial Day Observances

Arrowsmith Post No. 61 G A R Red Bank held a campfire and smoker and arranged Memorial Day events. Veterans will visit Little Silver and Shrewsbury cemeteries, decorate graves with schoolchildren, join with Samuel T Sleeper Camp Sons of Veterans, parade with fire companies and fraternal groups, then service at Fair View cemetery. Additional plans include Grace Methodist Church attendance and Grace to be followed by a church event.

New Jersey May 28 Primary Delegates List Heads for Big Conventions

Trenton May 3 Primary petitions for delegates to the national conventions closed at midnight. With candidates from Roosevelt Taft Wilson La Follette and uninstructed camps, more than 250 names contend for 28 delegates and alternates per convention. Delegates and alternates from At Large and Third District include Republicans for Taft Fort Briggs Murphy and Ayer. Roosevelt contenders feature Fort and Jess with Colby as alternate. Lafollette field includes Owan Judd Delart and Pope. Democratic Wilson delegates include Westcott Hinchcliffe Martine and Wedin.

Attempted Barn Fire at Rumson Intersect Montclair Property

Early today an attempt to burn the Newman barn at Rumson and Riverview roads was stopped before a major blaze. A kerosene-filled can was found, authorities investigate, and no serious damage occurred following a daytime robbery on the same property.

Italian section gang strikers on the N B railroad, about 150 men, held a mass meeting at Star of Italy Hall to seek higher pay and extra time. a four member committee met with John Daly and Supt Berry, but the company rejected $2.00 for 10 hours and a later $1.80 proposal. They vow to strike and demand back pay if not resolved by 8 a m tomorrow, while authorities monitor for safety.

Boy 19 Seriously Injured in Auto Crash

Joseph Terwilliger Jr., 12, was hit by a Maxwell roadster driven by Randolph Bennett, a Branchport grocer, on Wednesday night as he played with other boys near Neptune Hose company quarters. He was tossed under a wheel, badly bruised but not broken, and treated by Dr. O A Clark. He recovered enough to rest at home, with doctors hopeful he would pull through.

Cleanliness Mania Of This Old Man

An elderly man identified as John C. Johnson, about 75, appeared at City Hall in a nervous, incoherent state and claimed abuse. Police detained him, physicians certified commitment, and he was sent to the State Hospital at Trenton on the 11.25 train under guard. Johnson, born in Allentown, had a history of steady farm work and a recent mental depression that sparked a compulsive need for cleanliness.

Business Men's Carnival at Lyceum closes successful three nights

The Business Men's Carnival hosted by Mrs. M A Harris under St James Church auspices ended at the Lyceum after three nights of musical numbers sketches and vaudeville. Local businesses showcased and aided St James Church building fund. The show drew strong attendance with standout turns by youth ensembles and newsboys chorus including a notable solo by James Greek who received an encore and a bouquet.
