Art Exhibition Opens at School

The A. W. Elson Co. of Boston loaned art for display in the Grammar School Auditorium starting this afternoon at 2:30. Two hundred pictures including carbon photographs photogravures sculpture and painting will be shown for the rest of the week. Admission is small and proceeds fund room beautification. Daily programs feature student performers and recitations from local pupils.

Asbury Park to Host Bill Posters Convention

Asbury Park has been chosen for the annual convention of the association of Bill Posters and Distributors of United States and Canada. J. F. O'Melia, Democrat for Jersey City mayor, organizes the two day event starting Tuesday July 10 with a 23 member board meeting. About 600 delegates and families are expected. the New Jersey State Association is chaired by Charles Rosencrans of the American Bill Posting Co.

Fishermen Net Large Haul in Belford Waters

About 2 500 bushels of menhaden were caught by Belford fishermen Tuesday morning. E H Jones led with 268 bushels and George C Henry had 248. Over 2 000 bushels were sent to Port Monmouth plant of the New York and New Jersey Fish Oll and Guano Company. If this rate continues the 1909 weekly record of 12 000 bushels may be matched.

Wilson Funeral Services Set for Sunday

Funeral services for former Council man Frank Q. Wilson who died yesterday morning at his Sea Bright home will be held Sunday. A short service at the house is set for 12 30 p m followed by a sermon at Sea Bright M E Church at one o clock conducted by Rev Dr J Ward Gamble. Burial will be at Glenwood Cemetery in Long Branch directed by William H. Morris Kane.

Local Man Arrested in Horse Theft Case From Years Ago

County Detective Elwood Miaugh of Red Bank arrested John York in Atlantic Highlands on a grand larceny indictment dating back over two years. York, visiting his brother Thomas York, was taken to the county jail after a tip from Chief Snedeker. The case ties to a stolen black horse from funeral director John G Sexton’s Broadway stable, with York believed to be part of a larger gang involved in Middletown township horse thefts. York’s capture follows prior efforts including a stormy Port Monmouth pursuit with Detective Walling. officials expect the gang to be broken up.

Tubercular Patient Dies at Monmouth Memorial Hospital

Mrs. Mary Kelly of Asbury Park widow of Joseph Kelly died of tuberculosis enteritis at Monmouth Memorial Hospital on Saturday aged 60. She is survived by a grown son and daughter.

Johnson Blair and Paul Barker arrested by Patrolman Monday evening at Broadway and Second Avenue for excessive joy. Recorder Arrowsmith fined Blair five dollars while Barker received a suspended sentence until June 1.

Lamp causes house fire on Liberty Street

A lamp left burning on a bureau near a clothes closet exploded and showered flames through the Liberty Street two story frame dwelling of Mr and Mrs John Hayes injuring attic rafters and much of the second floor. Neighbors saved lower floor furniture before firemen arrived. The blaze, which started while Hayes was away at work, destroyed the roof and bureau. The building owned by Charles Bennett of New York with local agent Anthony T Woolley, is insured.

Devereaux Named President of Monmouth County Tax Board

William K. Devereaux of Asbury Park is the new president of the Monmouth County Tax Board succeeding Judge W. T. Hoffman. He and R. W. Herbert form the board with no successor yet appointed. The group will meet in Freehold on Friday May 12 to give instructions to assessors.

Williams elected senior warden of Grand Encampment

Charles L. Williams of Long Branch was elected senior warden of the Grand Encampment at Phillipsburg. He previously served as grand junior warden and will become grand patriarch in 1913. Long Branch Encampment No. 49 was represented by Past Chief Patriarch Preston L. Wood. The annual report cited 3350 members and $12,013.83 in relief, with total receipts of $22,338.28. Germania encampment at West Hoboken was instituted last year. Williams is noted as active in all branches and a past chancellor of the Knights of Pythias.

Red Bank Library Association Holds Successful Annual Meeting

The Red Bank Library Association met Monday at the Weis building on Monmouth street. Officers were elected: President Mrs. Frank L. Blaisdell, First VP Mrs. Henry B. White, Second VP Mrs. John B. Bergen, Secretary Mrs. J. W. Cooke, Treasurer Mrs. William T. Corlies. Librarian Miss Elizabeth Cooper reported 19 045 books circulated, up 4 884 from the prior year, with 5 477 new volumes added, including 129 high quality nonfiction. Weekly average circulation was 367, making the year the association’s most successful yet.

Orphan Children to Be Placed by Local Lodge

A committee formed by Artoch Lodge No 77 I O F decided to move George Taits two orphan children to Long Branch homes.
