Judge denounces brutal assault and prison term handed

In Freehold court Judge Foster sentenced Frank Glaubrecht to a maximum of fifteen years and a minimum of seven and a half years for the criminal assault of 12 year old Mary Hendry of Rumson. The State Board of Health will investigate an ugly feature of the case. Glaubrecht is under thirty. Also heard were guilty pleas from Alexander McCabe for stealing $49 from Ann May Hospital at Spring Lake. sentence suspended with a pledge to reform. Edward Havens pleaded guilty to stealing a rowboat at the Highlands and was sent to Rahway Reformatory. Wholesale liquor license for Albert Hirschfeld of Long Branch renewed. Samuel W. Haysman’s license was laid over to May 7.

Stolen Pleven Planks From Church and Lumber Site

Planks each 20 feet long were taken from the New Monmouth Baptist Church cellar. Several planks also vanished from a lumber pile at Howard Wert's new house site. A search recovered 17 large planks hidden about 106 yards away in Hendrickson's woods and they were returned to the lumber pile, remaining undisturbed since.

Nine Nurses to Graduate at Monmouth Memorial

Nine young women will receive diplomas as trained nurses at the graduation exercises of the Monmouth Memorial Hospital training school to be held two weeks from today. The graduates are Misses Helena Drennan, Pearl Dennett, Pauline Arrow, Marie Peters, Claudia MacLean, Mary Carson, Eleanor Conover, Harriet Burlew and May Ronan.

Five Hearn cottages sold for 67260 in New York

Five of the Hearn estate cottages were auctioned in New York fetching 67260. The Shakespeare Lodge and sunken garden created 15760 with buyer Morris Tyler. Other sales included Marine, Ivy, Bogs, and Eagle cottages with buyers and prices listed.

Business Men's Carnival packs Lyceum Theatre

A Carlisle authored vaudeville show titled Business Men's Carnivals was staged at the Lyceum for a second performance last night. The drainage dispute over Water Witch Station was heard in Jersey City before Vice Chancellor Garrison. The four day trial, part of a long case begun in 1910 by the Borough of Highlands against multiple parties, urges amicable settlement to avoid injunctions as the court reviews decades of water flow involving Highlands Middletown Monmouth and several companies. Striking Italians disrupt New York and Long Branch Railroad actions

A Tuesday and Wednesday march by Italian workers escalated into demonstrations along the tracks. At the roundhouse in the city they ordered three Black workers off the job while others fled to safety. Police were posted as about fifty to sixty strikers later raided the freight depot opposite Central station and cleared out all employees. If no action is taken by tomorrow, flagmen may be forced into line.

Pioneer Fisherman Keeps Busy at Eighty Four on Hook and Line

Jacob Corlies Williams born May 2, 1824 along Bath avenue near Norwood avenue lives on his 84th birthday. A lifelong Atlantic coast fisherman with 69 years at sea he recalls the wrecks and wrecking work from early 19th century. He fished solo many years and served in the Life Saving Service at Station No. 1 and later Taka-Nassee Station. He helped wrecking crews including the Chaumey Jerome Wilhelm and Scotland. He is one of the last old-time fishermen. his brother James is 87 and well in Tinnton Falls.

Youth found drowned near Rumson canal in Fair Haven

The body of Joseph Johnson twenty was found yesterday afternoon in Ivins creek near Rumson country club canal. Coroner Harry Fay said autopsy showed accidental drowning though family suspects foul play. He survived by six sisters and two brothers, funeral set for Red Bank. Citizens Ticket for Fair Haven elects mixed ticket

Fully 250 male citizens gathered in the Fair Haven schoolhouse auditorium to select a union ticket for the upcoming election. Mayor Frank D. Covert led a Democratic slate with George W. Smith as collector and a balance of Republican and Democrat councilmen. The meeting adjourned after 214 votes were cast amid expectations of rival tickets in the county election.
