Thrown Out in Collision on Broadway

Benjamin Sok of Fourth Avenue was knocked from his wagon seat when a touring car owned by A Klopper of Asbury Park tried to pass between the wagon and an oncoming horse. The wagon struck the car’s rear, the horse was jostled, and the fifth wheel and running gear were torn loose. Driver gave name and number. Patrolman Vetter holds the case facts and witnesses.

Husband shoots wife over refused money in Abottsford home

Rebecca Pulley, a Black woman from Abbottsford Avenue, lies dying at Monmouth Memorial Hospital from a gunshot wound inflicted by her husband Henry Pulley who was drunk. The confrontation followed a rent dispute as the couple argued and he fired the revolver after a struggle, wounding her in the left side near the breast and through the liver. A crowd intervened as Officer Vetter arrived to arrest the assailant after a brief struggle.

Pneumonia Improves for Former Councilman Flanigan

Joseph N. Flanigan former Columbia Hotel proprietor at Broadway and Second Avenue was stricken with pneumonia a week ago Saturday and confined to bed since Wednesday. He shows slight improvement but remains in serious condition and may recover unless a relapse occurs.

West Side A. A. Club defeated the Young Giants 6 to 5 in the opener as good fielding marked the game. In the second game West Side tallied eight runs in the first inning and held the lead with Smock hitting a fifth inning home run. Colts beat Y. M. H. A. 15 to 9 on the same diamond.

Italian man shot last August finally arrested in Monmouth

Ghoeichino Abruzzi, a deaf Italian, was shot through the lower abdomen August 27 last and spent twenty days between life and death at Monmouth Memorial Hospital. Joseph Luccia, the alleged shooter, was hidden until Abruzzi's discharge and faced a warrant sworn before Judge Charles Corn. Luccia waived a hearing and posted $500 bail to await grand jury action.

Mrs Helen M Nesbitt wife of Harry Nesbitt connected to the auditor's office in the brick building died Wednesday evening at her Spring Lake home after years long illness tuberculosis noted as the cause of death.

Galilee Fisherman J. W. Cook Injured At Sea

J. W. Cook, a Galilee fisherman, is recovering after a serious accident at sea last week while pumping poles. He fell against a pole, fracturing four ribs on his right side and one on the left. He was rushed ashore and later taken to his home in the Lockwood automobile.

Public Service Takes Over Shore Lighting Firms

The Public Service Corporation, with Board approval, has merged the Shore Lighting Company and leased its gas business to Public Service Gas Company and its electric business to Public Service Electric Company. The merger adds five communities to its service, with gas in South Amboy and electricity in Red Bank Rumson Shrewsbury township Middletown and Sea Bright. The Shore Lighting Company combined Citizens Light and Fuel of South Amboy Shore Electric of Red Bank and Sea Bright Electric. The Fidelity Trust Company arranged the consolidation as estate manager for Philip N. Jackson, whose interests prompted the move. Control began April 1 and leases take effect today.

A guest at Dalton's Hotel on Brighton avenue did not sign the registry. The intruder entered through a west side window, looted six cigarette packs worth about $60, and took papers from a safe top. Additional robberies hit a West End telephone booth and the Elberon depot automatic, with little detail on amounts stolen.

John W. Brown 55 from West Grove near Asbury Park found dead in a culvert under Deal Lake Bridge after a walk. Coroner says possible accident or suicide. Brown left Corlies avenue home about 1 pm. discovered by Grace Thorne on the bridge. He had $50 and leaves a widow and several children.

Sea Bright express began the season with its shore route from Long Branch to New York carrying over eighty passengers. The morning voyage marked the service’s initial run as commuters and travelers boarded the carriages along the coast.

Colored Revolver Artist Gapthred Captured in Va. Police Action

Detective Captain Walling arrested George Northam a colored fugitive from Accomac county Virginia who had pursued a would be murderer from December. Northam allegedly shot at Roah Mason a young colored man in Mason s house and exchanged fire with Mason who may have been struck in the legs. Northam fled to Long Branch then returned to his home before being arrested on Broadway near Academy alley and will be transported back to Accomac by Sheriff Kellum.
