Women Drill At Oakhurst Social Evening

A sock sociable at Oakhurst, held in the Sunday school room, drew nearly 2000 attendees. Ladies' Aid Society members performed a drill with masked green aprons, while a penny guessing contest and donkey prize awards entertained guests. Funds over $40 were collected at the door and refreshments served.

David S Clayton a machinist formerly of thin sky and employed by Willam Chart Med in Newark is dead at 49. He leaves a family of five grown children and had lived in Newark for eight to ten years. He belonged to Tireah Court, Tribe of Ben Hur.

Red Hawk High School Girls Meet in Public Basketball Game

Two Red Hawk High School girls basketball teams will play Monday afternoon at 3:90 in the Red Bank Y M C A court. The game is open to the public and follows the schedule printed in the notice.

Utility Commission Rejects Long Branch Telephone Franchise

The New York Telephone Company faced scrutiny from State Public Utility Commission members over rates and municipal deals. Commissioner Daniels urged openness and pruning of dark pockets in gratuitous service and municipal compensation. Long Branch proposed a $600 annual payment plus free service and a franchise tax, which the board could not approve, deferring for further study after company representatives argued it would contradict prior guidance. Trenton reports Governor Wilson signed a ten hour day for women and about sixty other bills. Measures include prison labor on public roads, convict labor planning, real estate map controls, simplified legal practice, and allowing married women to sue without their husbands. Also prohibited is carrying concealed weapons and expanded road work funding. Two Monmouth County items: Wall township annexation to Manasquan and Maer Haven borough incorporation. The era of stricter gun and labor laws continues with pump gun restrictions.

Union Movement Hear Dr Westcott in Long Branch

The Men and Religion Forward Movement in Long Branch hosts Rev. Dr. Wilbert C. Westcott of Jersey City at the Union Men's meeting in Simpson Memorial M. G. Church tomorrow evening at 7 00. Legislature's cost doubled for session year

Trenton March 30 The incidental bill for expenses of the Legislature's session calls for appropriations of 857,772 plus sums for ministers chaplains and officers of the prior session. The total will rise by about 1,700 from last year due to many clerks and officers in the Assembly. The report notes clerks far exceed legal limits.

The United States Weather Bureau predicts the next thirty six hours ending Sunday evening for New Jersey with northeast to joint winds at night and Sunday. Barometer readings around 30.10 and 29.27 with winds 24 miles per hour from the north and a peak wind of 36 miles from the southwest in the last 24 hours. Trust Agreement Nets Woman Nine Thousand Dollars

A New Jersey chancery proceeding reveals Mrs Mary C Nobles of Atlantic Highlands received 4000 while Miss Letitia J Bowne shared the same proceeds from a land sale arranged in 1881 by John C Nobles. Trusts and deeds passed through trustees Colins and later Col King until Mantell purchased part of Bownes property. The vice chancellor ordered Nobles to receive her share. Bowne paid 4000 and Mantell gained clear title.

Peace Bond Sought Over Death Threat Claim

Philip Jlawent reported under a peace bond that Charles Guarini threatened to kill him after Guarini’s brother-in-law was discharged from a rectory. Guarini reportedly said he would face death to avenge the wrong. Guarini was bound over on ten dollar bail.

Record closing of 186th Legislature ends peacefully

Trenton March 30 the 186th Legislature adjourned in orderly fashion after a brief session. Both houses will reconvene April 10 to consider the Governor's vetoes. Major actions include a congressional redistricting bill aimed at eight of twelve Republican seats and a move to shift Presidential primary date from May 28 to May 14. The Leavith voter transport bill passed amid Democratic opposition and was vetoed by Governor Wilson for fraud concerns.
