A woman escaped a fatal explosion with serious injuries and told the coroner how the accident occurred. She remained conscious for hours in the hospital as two small children also survived the blast with injuries, described in frantic hours of agony.
Mrs Hizabreth Hyer Grover dies at Monmouth Memorial Hospital after severe burns from kerosene ignition at home on West End Avenue. She was conscious minutes before death, stated she bore full responsibility for the accident, and described the incident to Coroner Morris. Her two children were present during the blaze.
A big wind storm felled a massive tree in Newbolds woods blocking Goose Neck road and a two story barn at Stocam farm near Long Branch Golf links collapsed. Horses were outside. contents damaged little. New Elks plan, lodge notices, and upcoming events noted.
Charles O. Duncan for Mrs. Washington Wilson objected to Lincoln avenue curbing at the Board of Commissioners meeting. Telegrams from Lincoln avenue owners protested. First reading approved unanimously as owners may withdraw after understanding details. City Engineer to profile First and Abbottsford avenues and Laird street. The board also authorized use of City Hall for Common Pleas and District Court, with compensation to be fixed, amid space concerns. Streets department reported ongoing work on Sixth, Cedar, Lincoln, Elberon, Joline, and Fifth avenues with grading, gravelling, and base improvements ongoing.
Red Bank real estate agent William A. Hopping reports numerous rentals recently. Listings include Abbie Crowe’s Irving Place house rented to Edward Cook of Trenton and many others to residents from Asbury Park Newark Palmyra and New York for season and year leases.
Daniel Fauss a Red Bank resident who boards at the Germania Hotel came back yesterday after several weeks in the south for his health. He appears much improved.

Ocean Grove legislation stalled as the Senate tied 9 to 9 with all Republicans voting no. Senator Slocum urged passage then moved to table the measure, promising a future return, while praising Camp Meeting head Dr. Aaron Ballard as a stabilizing figure.
Fishermen around Galilee report the beach washing away from Daly to Carr cottages, 50 to 600 feet, crippling the pound boat landing and risking the bulkhead. Cribbing work will start after estimates. tons of stone will safeguard the county road and save the limited Galilee fishing property.

Nearly twenty members of Red Bank Second Troop of Cavalry attended a special election in the Armory led by Col. Manton of the Fifth Regiment. H. Norman Hoi resigned. Harry Clayton elected First Lieutenant. Frederick Polhemus named First Sergeant. John J. Many and John Fix won noncommissioned posts, while Morton J. Bamberg er sworn in as a member. A note on local visitors and a Scouts photo promotion accompany the brief report.
A man dies of gas asphyxiation after opening a window to warm a room while partly asleep. A woman’s life is saved when the open window vents the deadly gas. The incident occurred during a nighttime attempt to create warmth and light.
Mrs. Sarah A. Hogan of Rector Place Hed Bank found John A. Blakely dead near the kitchen stove after a gas leak in his room. Coroner Harry C. Pay ruled accidental gas asphyxiation. Blakely, 60, from Brooklyn, had been visiting Red Bank and Shrewsbury, where he stayed with his niece Mrs. George Silvers. He had helped neighbors earlier that day and was staying at Mrs. Hogan’s home when he died after retiring for warmth. The case is continued on page six.
Thomas Williams proprietor of the Plaza restaurant in New Brunswick was badly hurt when a gasoline lighting machine exploded during adjustments at his restaurant. He lay at St Peter's Hospital for days and has nearly recovered.
In Trenton on March 26 the fight over jury reform stalls as the Senate and Assembly clash over a referendum. A conference committee is appointed to craft a bill acceptable to both chambers. Senators Davis Slocum and Leavitt are named on the conference team with House members Martin McDermott and Salus.
In an interview Louise A. West, employed as a maid by George M. Jacobus of Red Bank, admitted being served with divorce papers and said she was glad the knot would be untied. The suit, filed by Charles H. West, a Pullman Company porter, cites desertion and will be heard in Cook County Supreme Court after marriage in 1896. Their daughter, fourteen, lives with her mother. the couple reportedly remain on friendly terms but do not live together.
Dayton, Ohio, struggles under a vast flood with foundations failing and fires burning. Residents cling to rooftops as water swamps hotels and churches, with chained reports of hundreds feared dead and others missing. Officials seek food, clothing, nurses, doctors, and medicine as rescue continues.

An afternoon gathering of the Wo mans Foreign Missionary Society of St Luke's M E Church is set for tomorrow at 3 PM in the church lecture room. The public is invited to attend as plans for an upcoming program are announced. A masque dance by the Daughters of Liberty is also advertised for Thursday night March 27 at Odd Fellows Hall.
