Election and Tax Bills Move Through the Upper House
In Trenton the Senate passed Leavitt election bills amid a steamroller majority with four Democrats opposed. Measures cut personal registration for towns under 16 000 and altered primary dates to May, aiming to align with National Committee rules. A separate bill authorizes electors at a September state convention and weakens campaign disclosure, inviting a likely veto by Governor Wilson. A lively fight looms over the state tax law revision.
