The former St James Episcopal Church on Broadway is sold through Van Huel & Holston to Walter Rosenberg who will replace it with the New Broadway Theatre. demolition underway under Charles E Brown. project by Leon Cubberley envisions a 980 seat main hall, 610 balcony, 85 by 40 foot stage, four boxes, modern backstage facilities, nine ground-level exits and an eight-foot rear court with a August first completion target.

Death of Ellen Slocum on Slocum tract in Seventh avenue

Ellen Slocum widow of Samuel Slocum died at Monmouth Memorial Hospital at age about 74 after a month long illness. She came from New York as a girl of seventeen and lived on the Slocum farm, now reduced by city improvements. Surviving children are Lizzie West, William Rosell, James and Edward. Funeral at the house on Seventh avenue at 2 pm Wednesday. interment in West Long Branch.

Jersey Central Traction Plans Trolley Expansion in Jersey City

A meeting of the League of Exempt Firemen of the Third Congressional District convened at the Elberon Engine House yesterday. Chief Charles Danner of Perth Amboy, newly elected president, presided as delegates from New Brunswick Perth Amboy Woodbridge and the city attended. The third meeting of the new organization featured read by laws adopted a luncheon followed by a session addressing relief fund progress and volunteer firemen welfare.

Ancient Order of United Workmen Holds Big New Jersey Session

The regular State session of the Ancient Order of United Workmen of New Jersey met at the Hotel Rudolph in Atlantic City with 140 representatives present. Elder Kilduff Found Dead at Tinker Home in Deal

Dennis Kilduff aged 68 was found dead in his room at the Tinker residence on Norwood avenue Deal after supper. Coroner Morris issued a burial permit. Funeral services set for St Marys Church Deal at 10 am Wednesday and interment at Holy Cross Cemetery Brooklyn.

Observations from Long Branch show high temperatures around 45, low 37, and a 24 hour change of plus five degrees. Barometer around 30.41, humidity near 98 percent this morning. Winds southeasterly at 12 mph, strongest 22 mph from the east in the past day. A comparison notes yesterday’s conditions and a year ago with partly cloudy skies and highs near 51.

Funeral for Frank Dalton Observed by Masonic Groups

Impressive services marked the funeral of Frank Dalton yesterday afternoon. Three fraternal orders attended, led by Long Branch Lodge, with Abacus Lodge and Standard Chapter joining the observance. The Elks, Board of Trade, and St James' Church wardens sent representatives, as hundreds viewed the casket and floral tributes. The burial occurred at West Long Branch after an Episcopal service conducted by Rev Father Nash. The Masons led the committal with Worshipful Master John H Sutphen and Charles H. Ray as chaplain.

Trackwalker finds man dead near Matawan Cliffwood tracks

A New York & Long Branch Railroad trackwalker found a severely injured man along the Matawan to Cliffwood rails about 6 45 am. The victim, about 45, with a severed right leg and extensive bruising, died before a doctor arrived. Coroner Fay deemed an inquest unnecessary. The body, unidentifiable after clothing inspection, was sent to Arrowsmith Bros morgue in Matawan and may be interred in Matawan cemetery if not identified by Wednesday. A Perth Amboy paper found in his pocket suggests possible last location. The man appeared to be about 5 feet 10 inches, heavy build, black turning gray hair, brown eyes, and wore underclothes, overalls, and a jumper.
