Promotion Day Observed at St Luke's Sunday School

Ninety eight pupils advanced in classes at St Luke's Sunday school during Promotion Day. 400 scholars attended as 32 cradle roll to beginners, 19 from beginners to primary, 17 from primary to junior, and 30 from juniors to intermediate received advancement. Graduation ceremonies featured diplomas and a missionary program with solos readings and singing.

Red Bank council rejects extra pay for clerk's assistant

At the Red Bank council meeting, a proposal to fund a $250 yearly assistant in Collector Thompson's office failed on a 3-3 vote after Mayor Pittenger opposed it. A later motion for a $250 allowance was withdrawn. discussions included calls for a public works commissioner and debates over who may speak.

Keansburg Man Brought to Hospital for Kidney Trouble

James Thompson of Keansburg was taken to Monmouth Memorial Hospital yesterday afternoon by Hyer and Flock’s ambulance. Dr Budlong ordered his removal for treatment of kidney trouble at the hospital. Empire Theatre Monmouth at Red Bank operated by Chas W Ritter features moving pictures and vaudeville nightly at 8 15 with a 3 20 matinee daily.

Italian Shooters Linked To Belmar Shooting Case

William Glenn a 60 year old blacksmith at Belmar was shot by one of two Italian youths on Sixteenth avenue near the railroad tracks as he and his son Thomas walked to West Belmar. Thomas, 28, said the pair stopped them for a match and the gunman fired five times. Michael Angelini, a boot black, was arrested and identified as the shooter and held for the grand jury without bail.

Chiefs of Police Association Elects Wymbs and Smith

At the New Jersey State Chiefs of Police Association meeting in Elizabeth, Chief Arthur L. Wymbs of Red Bank and Chief William H. Smith of Asbury Park were elected to membership. The next meeting is set for April 1 in East Orange and Elizabeth hosted a banquet in honor of President Chief George C. Tenney.

Pulley verdict upheld on appeal in murder case

The Court of Errors and Appeals sustained Henry Pulley's first degree murder conviction in the 1911 shooting of his wife in Long Branch. The defense argued improper trial instructions and mental derangement, but the appellate panel found no substantial reason to reverse. Pulley was captured shortly after the April 30 incident and later confined for potential hospital care.

J. F. Blackman Dead in Red Bank

Joseph F. Blackman a longtime Red Bank resident died at his Maple avenue home after paralysis that began in December. He was about 70, survived by his wife and son Harry R. Blackman of Newark. Funeral plans by Mount & Son red bank directors pending. He belonged to the Newark Masonic lodge and enjoyed checker games at the Red Bank Y.M.C.A. He was a former traveling salesman in tile and mantle trades.

Funeral services for Red Bank resident Jesse Hargett

The well known Red Bank resident Jesse C Hargett died Monday night at 42 after a pleuro pneumonia illness of about eight days. Funeral services will be held tomorrow at 2 PM at Red Hill Baptist Church with Rev J W Hamlin officiating. Interment at Red Hill Cemetery by Robert Ik Mount Son funeral directors. He was born in North Carolina and worked as a driver for Morford Coal Co. Survived by a wife and two stepchildren.

Schmidt Exempt From City Delivery Charge

Philip Schmidt the local butcher does not have to pay Asbury Park $25 for deliveries within the city. A 1924 court ruling found against him but was reversed on appeal by his counsel Wm L Edwards, who argued the city could not levy a house delivery tax for incidental business activity. A reward awaits the return of two mistaken boats and a piece sent to Mrs Barshetaky.
