Prevented Flooded Streets This Year City report旭

Street Commissioner Kiernan reported to Long Branch City Council on February 1912 efforts to prevent street and basement floods during thaw and heavy rains. He noted temporary repairs, gravel fills, and extensive cleaning of catch basins and drains across Long Branch avenues Chelsea Fifth Ocean Pavillion Avery Bath North Lincoln and other locations in anticipation of March and April rain events. The report lists numerous catch basins trunks and cleaned pipes including locations near Takanassee Bridge Railroad yards and trolley tracks.

Nine New Church Members at Red Bank Service

Nine members were welcomed at the morning service of First Baptist Church on Maple Avenue Red Bank. The group entered the church at a convent meeting held last Wednesday night. New members include Andrew F. Faden from Boston Massachusetts Mrs and Mr George Allen from Middletown and Matawan First Churches A Voorhees from this city and Mr and Mrs James McNair Elizabeth McNair and James McNair Jr from Lakewood First Church.

B C Club to Host Dance at Townley Hall

The TB C Club met at Edgar Woolley’s home Saturday night then planned their annual dance for March 8 at Townley Hall with Harold A. Dennett providing music. Sailor recounts perilous sea voyage in ice bound sloop

Captain Edward Burlew, sole occupant of the Lydia Van Name, was towed into Keyport harbor after a treacherous voyage. The ice bound craft washed to sea, froze midwinter, and nearly swamped, with Burlew surviving days at sea before rescue by Captain Hiney and arrival at Sandy Hook. The sloop will undergo drydock repairs in Keyport. Headpin Tournament opens March 4 at Elkwood Recreation Alleys under Phil Cohen with five man teams and individuals eligible.

Red Bank Edges Neptune In Rallying League Bout

A Red Bank Y M C A basketball win over Neptune High School ended in a second half scrap with minutes left, final score 17 to 16 for Red Bank. Neptune protests the outcome as officials decide. Seven Hundred At Ball At Lyceum Masquerade Night

The Lyceum hosted the third annual masquerade ball by the Hebrew Ladies Benevolent Society drawing nearly 700 attendees. Costumes ranged from fancy to grotesque as dancers filled the floor and visitors from nearby towns observed the event. Prizes were awarded to Louis Zabionky Red Bank Gorcey Stutzer Goldie Shapiro D C Nicoll Arthur Solk Benny Katz with Mrs Yetta Barshofsky chairing the arrangements along with several committee members.

Wilson protests over borough township tax split

At a Red Bank Mayor and Council meeting Attorney General Edmund Wilson challenged bills for the same Harrison avenue lots in both borough and Shrewsbury township. He also objected to a duplicate dog tax. Assessor Ivins explained the four lots straddle the borough boundary, front in the borough and rear in the township. The matter was referred to Ivins and Wilson to resolve the split and refund the excess $10.70.

Registration Day on City Registry Revision Before Election

Registries boards in each ward met at 1 pm to revise and correct lists ahead of the special election next Tuesday for the new Commission form of government. Boards will stay in session until 9 pm. Veto Sustained In Engine Installation Controversy

Acting Mayor Henry Joline presiding officer of the City Council had his first veto last night on a Seagrave Company engine install proposition for the automobile hose wagon. The veto was sustained, with solicitor Slocum's opinion noting enforcement if the engine fails to meet contract requirements. The fire and water committee and city solicitor were urged to adjust. An invitation from the Hebrew Ladies Benevolent Society to their annual ball was accepted. Building Inspector Cranmer warned that the Pach building on Brighton Avenue remains unsafe after winter fires and should be torn down. Firemen's exempt certificates were granted to John Goodwin Joseph Alberto and Samuel Adams at the request of the Hiberon Engine Company.

Walter C Reed son of Dr James J Reed of Sea Bright has opened a machine shop in the Ocean Garage this city. He is a practical automobile man and now lives with his wife’s folks on Morrell street. Benefit for Disabled Fireman in Keyport Minstrel Show

New Physicians Added to Monmouth Memorial Hospital Staff

At a monthly board meeting the Monmouth Memorial Hospital appointed Dr. P. P. Rafferty as pathologist replacing Dr. B. E. Failing and added Drs. Seymour Oppenheim and Charles H. May to the staff. The February report showed 86 admissions, 88 discharges, leaving 70 patients under treatment. ten deaths occurred in February.
