Baltimore June 26 Chairman Parker opened the Democratic convention at 12 20 pm with a sparse gallery and heat in the hall. Governor Blanchard urged a recess. former Governor Folk praised Bryan as moral leader. The committee chose Ollie James permanent chairman. Bryan declined the chair. Delegates questioned nomination prospects as the platform debate began, with labor planks favored by Gompers and Morris and a projected progressive platform after many ballots.

Laborer Charles Wayne a twenty five year old from near Headden’s Corner Middletown township is jailed without bail after a grand jury action. He allegedly assaulted Mrs Edward Pettit and fought her husband at the Pettit home on June 12 while under the influence. Constable Chandler captured Wayne after a brief chase firing three shots. Mrs Pettit and Mr Pettit filed charges including statutory offense and assault. Wayne fled after learning of the action. he was found near the Pettit home and arrested after a pursuit.

Bicyclist Struck By Carriage After Arc Light Blindness
Frank J. McGuire of Rockwell Avenue, an Hirschfeld employee, suffered head and facial injuries when a arc light blinded him and he collided with a rear of a carriage on Oven Avenue after work. He was dazed, hospitalized at Monmouth Memorial Hospital, with a black eye and swollen forehead, and expected to recover in a few days. His bicycle was wrecked.
