New Jersey funeral directors and wives enjoyed a dinner at the Abe Globe Hotel in Red Bank after a fall meeting near Shrewsbury. John G. Sexton of Long Branch chaired the program with President Job Smith of Tuckerton arriving to lead the business session.

Aged Mys Preacher Rev Edwin Waters Dies at 86

After a brief illness of two weeks, Rev. Edwin Waters died at his daughter’s home in Asbury Park. He passed his 86th birthday on March 1, suffering uraemia. Survivors include son William A. Waters and daughters Mrs. J. C. Lonan and Miss Olive L. Waters, all residing at 604 Second Avenue. Dr. A Ballard of Ocean Grove is the lone surviving physician.

Opening of Leland Inn Promises Jersey Coast Resort Welcome

Invitations are out for the formal opening of Leland Inn Pleasure Bay on Saturday June 25 to mark the third season under proprietor William C Fianter. The event includes a lawn luncheon and a concert with friends along the Jersey coast in attendance. The ad promotes the Light Store and local meat specials offered by Phil Schmidt the 20th Century Butcher.

Confidence Men Rob Boston Girl of Nearly $1000 Here

Miss Grace Miller of Boston fell for a smooth pitch by three well dressed men claiming to own a stable of racing horses near Red Bank New Jersey. They persuaded her to invest 1000 dollars for a guaranteed five thousand after a supposed race. She handed over 975 dollars and pawnd her jewelry for cash, then hurried toward New York to complete the deal.

Two Women Convicted for Keeping Disorderly Houses in Long Branch

Wilhelmina Mattison and Josephine Yetman were found guilty of keeping disorderly houses at Long Branch and remanded for sentencing. Wesley Edwards was held on bail after pleading not guilty to a similar charge. John Price, convicted of illegal liquor sales, failed to appear for sentence. Mrs. Hirschfeld entertained a group of ladies at a Broadway home Tea discussing the Long Branch Society for the Improvement of the Poor and its endless chain method of fundraising. President Mrs. Leon Cubberley noted strong support as guests pledged assessments and souvenirs were awarded to Mrs. A Levy and Mrs. Jacob Steinbach.

Porter Charlton Arrested After Arrival In Hoboken

Porter Charlton, husband of Mary Castle Scott Charlton whose body was found in Lake Como, Italy, was arrested on landing from the Bremen liner Princess Alice. He confessed to the killing but claimed innocence, and will be remanded until tomorrow. Police report two weeks of pursuit and rumors of his wife’s past. Charlton faces extradition to Italy.

Woman Peddler Outlawed In North Long Branch

Patrolman Hennessey detained a woman peddler selling without a license in North Long Branch. With a boy present, she claimed origin from New York and faced a choice of a $5 fine or a $10 license. After obstinacy, she paid $10 and obtained a season’s license as officers held her grips in the Chief’s room.

Wrecked Wagons After Wild Runaway Horse Incident

M Zimmerman proprietor of the Casino market reports his delivery wagon overturned after a frightened horse broke its tether at a post. The animal ran through Central avenue to Liberty and Broadway, colliding with another wagon. Volunteers halted the runaway. both wagons were damaged but the horse was captured and harness damaged little.

Artist Thurston's Wife Dies at Ocean Avenue Home

Mrs Samuel H. Thurston died this morning at 3 o clock at her ocean avenue residence after a short illness. She is survived by her husband and three grandchildren. Funeral private. burial under direction of John G. Sexton. Hoey Cottage, No. 3, undergoing repairs by Frederick Hoey. Cottage being repainted and a new porch added.

Funeral of ex Chief James Fay held at Star of the Sea

Funeral for ex Chief James Fay, son of the late Eugene and Catharine Fay, was held at Star of the Sea Church. The service included requiem high mass, a large turnout of fire department members, tolling alarms, and interment at Mt. Carmel. Fay organized Elberon Engine Company and served as chief before health limited his duties.
