The Supreme Court upholds the conviction and five year sentence of Daniel A. Dugan Jr of Orange for manslaughter. He killed a boy with his car while intoxicated last year and a half ago.
The New Jersey Supreme Court upheld the conviction of Daniel A. Dugan Jr. of Orange for fatal Christmas Day 1911 drunken driving that killed Lea McDermott. He is sentenced to five to ten years and was denied error claims on appeal. Bierman Widow Dies In Elberon Section At Ninety- Eight. Regina Bierman, widow of Isaac Bierman and aunt of Isaac Heidelberg, dies at age 86 in Elberon. Service and burial follow at Union Fields Cemetery.
A quiet wedding took place at the home of Mr and Mrs John P West in North Long Branch. Madeline West married Mont DeCamp of Newark with the ceremony led by Rev Dr R B Stephenson. Afterward they left for Newark and Washington DC for their honeymoon before settling in Newark.
The Twenty-Eighth Annual Commencement of Star of the Sea Academy was held yesterday afternoon in the assembly room with special exercises honoring the Edict of Toleration's 1600th anniversary. Rev. Dr. Cantwell presided and conferred honors including the M. C. Burns Academic Honor Medal to Gertrude Adele Bush and the John Guire Second Academic Honor Medal to Rosemary Imelda Corbett. Ten Palmer diplomas for penmanship went to Postel, Poole, Murphy, Van Derveer, McGinley, Meyer, Carney, and Olive Wright. Rosemary Corbett received the George Carroll medal for spelling. The program featured overtures, choral works, solos, recitations, and duos, concluding with the conferring of honors on the second page.
Reverend Van Sant unites Miss Margaret C. Lewis of Lisle New York and John Y. Kelkin of York Pennsylvania at the parsonage. Kelkin works on ice plant machinery for Mutual Supply Co. They board at Germania Hotel. Next wedding June 29 unites Permelia Lucas and H J Patterson with attendants from Lucas and Patterson families. Patterson is a Metropolitan Insurance agent. The couple will reside in Red Bank. Ice cream cone giveaway opens R R Rogers Dairy store tomorrow.
A Marlboro man driving a light car struck a horse belonging to George Hoy on the Marlboro Freehold road around 8 30 last night. The horse had to be shot due to injuries. Two young men involved escaped unharmed. The accident occurred at a dark stretch with no street lighting.
A jury at Freehold reduced the award to 675 dollars from 700 dollars in the St. Joseph Catholic Church case of Keyport. The church sought 5,000 dollars per acre for two and a quarter acres condemned by the Central Railroad division for cemetery use and depot expansion. Proceedings spanned Monday to noon today with a special train trip to view the property.
Dr. William Nelson Merrill of Brick Presbyterian Church New York delivered a half hour sermon titled The Best Motive to the Chattle High School graduating class of 1914 at the First Presbyterian Church. The packed church heard scripture from St. Matthew and a hymn service as the graduates took their seats after city and school officials entered.
The Long Branch Merchants Association aims to finish the pier and attract crowds with a good boat company. A committee led by Milton J. Goldstein William M. Slocum and J Vovick was named to push the plan. $200 was advanced to the Public Market Committee to build farmers booths and sell at cost this season.
In Washington on June 20 Judge Paul Charlton urged the State Department for help to ensure a fair trial for his son Porter Charlton. Secretary Bryan said the department must follow court mandates and that the requested action had already been completed. A maniac fatally shoots four and wounds fifteen at a school as a teacher is slain during an attempt to disarm the attacker. He is brought down in the school yard and a mob nearly tears the assailant apart.
A deranged Russian man in Bremen fires with a revolver in each hand at a Catholic school killing three girls and wounding ten others. A teacher named Mollmann is fatally wounded while trying to disarm him. The assailant is beaten by a mob before police intervene. Six revolvers and a hundred cartridges are found on him, with papers bearing the name Schmidt. A separate conviction: Alyvira Pennoyer, colored, is found guilty of illegal liquor sale at Long Branch and remanded for sentencing.
Red Bank police chief Arthur L. Wymbs arranged employment for a Hartford youth at Eisner's clothing factory after interceding for him. Detec tive Irving D. Rodenberger captured two boys riding on a mail car front, identified them as Harry Hunter and Richard Gronberg, and returned Gronberg to his father. The chief then secured Hunter a job and the youths were separated with one back home and one employed.

The closing exercises of the Grammar School were held in the Intermedial School auditorium with 81 graduates, 87 boys and 44 girls, marching in. Diplomas were presented by City Superintendent Christopher Gregory who urged planning regular study times. The program included flag drills, recitations, choruses, and orchestra pieces by the Intermediate and Eighth Grade students.
William A. Hopping of Red Bank sold the Harry Miner estate on the Shrewsbury riverfront in east Front Street to James W. Edgett of Brooklyn for a price near 27500. The seven acre river view property includes a 22 room house and a fine club house with extensive improvements totaling over 100000 dollars in the past twelve years. Edgett was a former lessee and had installed electric lights during his occupancy.

Ensign William D. Billingsley of the navy aviators fell 1,000 feet from a hydro airplane over Chesapeake Bay and died near Annapolis. Lieutenant J. H. Towers survived after the craft toppled in an air pocket. Adjutant-General Sadler, riding at League Island Navy Yard, Philadelphia, narrowly escaped when a hydro airplane lurched into an air pocket.
At Red Bank High School Class Night the graduating class announced a grandstand gift for the baseball grounds adjacent to the school. Abner H. West led the program with humor and remarks while Kenneth McQueen and Kenneth Morford presented features and poems.
