Mystery Palolo Worm Identified by Dr Woodworth in Samoa

Dr William McMichael Woodworth of Harvard's Museum of Comparative Zoology solved the Palolo mystery by showing the edible worms are reproductive organs of a larger worm living in coral. He found Eunice viridis, noting the annual spawning on a lunar calendar near early November or late October. The discovery clarifies the worms' strict calendar and reef spawning in Samoa Tonga Fiji and New Hebrides.
