Fire Threatens Children's Home Outing at Branchport

In Long Branch a fire damaged the second floor of The Children's Home operated by Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church New York. Eighty five children on a fortnightly outing were gone when smoke appeared from a window. Fire crews confined the blaze using chemicals and extinguished it. origin traced to a wardrobe. Hart Morris, son of the late Garrett B and Mrs Cornelia Lane, died at his Broadway residence shortly after 4 am yesterday. Born at the old Pavilion Hotel in 1857 during Governor Morris’s era, he had long suffered and grew ill after a summer complaint attack on Saturday, with death following.

Burglars Attack Brooklyn Church Leaving Patrolman Dead

In Brooklyn early today burglars attempting to enter St. Matthews Catholic Church shot Patrolman Cahill who died on the church steps. The assailants fled as the officer lay mortally wounded with wounds to his temple heart and stab injuries. A torn page mentions a wagon and Phil Daly Hose Co in a nearby note.

Funeral Rites for Richard Smith Held at Red Bank

Richard Smith aged on Friday night died at his home on Herbert Street Red Bank. Funeral services will be conducted at two this afternoon by Rev Dr J W Rogan. Burial follows at Fair View.
