A chauffeur and his companion were rescued near Oxford Hotel grounds after falling into water. The driver narrowly escaped drowning with difficulty. hotel proprietor aided lifeguards to reach them.
Charles Dey a Rosenwasser family chauffeur fell beyond the guard rope at Takan py grounds Ocea avenue while bathing Saturday. George Watkins a life saver dived in and pulled Dey from the water as the pair struggled against strong waves. Charles Gilligan of the Oxford Hotel also helped rescue Dey and Watkins assisted in reviving Dey after an hour.
Joseph Hitchings of Tacony Philadelphia returned home after a brief vacation in Red Bank. He is brother of Robert Hitchings superintendent of the Red Bank Branch of the Metropolitan Insurance Company and an ex soccer player with several medals. During his stay he visited the M M A and played a series of games with Thomas Tallman in checker matches.
As the season advances the new farmers market here gains popularity. Saturday morning nine stalls offered produce and all sold quickly. The day’s business topped $350 despite unfriendly weather and hotel counts.
Florence Rebecca Fay 43 wife of Coroner Harry Fay of Monmouth Street Red Bank died shortly after midnight from spinal paralysis. Born Nut Swamp Middletown Township she lived in Red Bank since marriage twenty five years ago. Survived by husband daughter Mrs Sarah Elizabeth Worden sister Mrs Annie C VanNote and six Smith brothers. Funeral Thursday at Red Bank Presbyterian Church. The Odd Fellows session in Atlantic City planned with local members likely to attend.
Former executive William Sulzer launches a campaign for governor of New York. He claims to fight graft and corruption, promise to protect taxpayers, support labor, ensure fair courts, and advance social justice, general welfare, and progressive legislation with free speech and public schools safeguarded.
A large Newark crowd enjoyed Voss's Regiment Band performing at Ocean Park with free moving pictures at Ocean Gardens. An 8,000 seat capacity filled, autos lined Ocean Avenue, and hundreds more attended the fishermen excursion from Newark to the seashore. Over 1,000 fishers visited the pier with prize catches noted. Free Sunday shows by Sidney Hoberman drew more visitors amid a busy Long Branch weekend program.
After weeks of pruning the Deal board of commissioners adopted a 1914 budget totaling 64000. Last year’s budget was about 98000, with 33500 more than the present. Mayor William Levy predicted the borough tax rate would be lower than any previous state and county levy. The reduction reflects a 10000 decrease from last year’s fire department equipment burden, and savings are reported in nearly every item.
Robert Emery of Oceanic fled custody after being taken to the Red Bank station by Rumson Councilman Richard Rogers. Emery and Thomas Court were charged with stealing a horse and wagon from John Wyckoff of Rumson Borough. They faced a hearing before Recorder John Yeomans and are held on $500 bail for grand jury action.
William C. Hickey aged 34 of Red Bank died yesterday morning at 6 30 from tuberculosis. He lived with his brother in law Mrs Truswell of Oakland street Red Bank. His wife survives. A service will be held Wednesday at 9 20 at St James Catholic Church with burial in Mt Oliver cemetery Long Island City. Peter J. Gorman in charge.

William Krawfort a 45 year old German was found near Tipton Falls badly cut and bleeding. detectives question him at Monmouth Memorial Hospital as he lies in critical condition. He was last seen leaving a shop with liquor and later found on the road toward the Ye ll en farm with head injuries.
The Elberon Memorial Presbyterian Church on Park Avenue attracts many visitors from Red Bank to Spring Lake for a summer morning service. The choir's anthem Dreams of Galle pleased the audience while Mrs Marie Stoddart Gayter sang piano with John Young and Grant Odell bass. Director Robert Gayter led the organ as Rev G Johnston Ross delivered a stirring sermon on The Lord's Supper.
Several hook and line fishermen, including John P. West of this city, bumped into a school of whales about miles off sea opposite Galilee. West described ten whales wandering and unafraid, with no interference from nearby Sea Bright and Ashe men. He wished for a closer view and imagined sharing the catch with them.
The Lee vs Muir salt case scheduled for Saturday at ten in Justice Wise’s Red Beak office was postponed to July at Muir’s request. Dr. Lee sought $21 or $7 per appointment after Muir, a client of Pair Raven, made three appointments and then canceled.
Marble tablets in the reception hall honor Monmouth Memorial Hospital and may become a major endowment. Three double panels will be ready soon with inscriptions by governors or the supervising nurse Miss Margaret J Herries. Names chosen for the first inscriptions are yet to be decided, with at least two to be carved promptly.
Oldest Odd Fellows Lodge No. 77, I O O F, the oldest lodge in this state section, celebrated its 66th birthday with an officers installation at Odd Fellows Hall Saturday night. District Deputy Grand Master Peter M. Kyer presided with Deputy Grand Master John P. West, Grand Marshal George Masson, and Anderson Case Peet in attendance.
