Oceanic guests and a fatal river accident headline

Were guests at Oceanic Mr and Mrs Harry Merkle of Enat Orange hosted by Mr and Mrs Alexander Joseph of Oceanic. Alexander Curchin of Pair Haven is listed on the sick list. A deckhand, Patrick Farley of the steamship Albertina, fell overboard near Locust point and died after rescue. Coroner John Sickles notified. body left at the steamboat dock as the Albertina sailed to New York with flag at half mast. Farley had joined Merchants Steamboat Co about a month ago. cause unclear but liquor influence suspected. Also an ad for Oriental rug repairs and cleaning by Medzigian Bros Co of Long Branch.

Tragic drowning of Albert R. Wilson at Shrewsbury River

Albert R. Wilson 23, of Red Bank, drowned while swimming with friend Otto Kleist near Hubbard's Bridge in the Shrewsbury River. Kleinest, partially dressed, could not save him as tide was strong. Wilson left a future in electrical engineering and was active with the Ushers Union. Body recovered after hours of search. funeral planned at his Canal Street home.

Walter Grey pleaded guilty to atrocious assault and was remanded for sentence next Thursday. Theodore Miller admitted theft and was released on probation. Ella Burgess pleaded not guilty to illegal liquor sale with trial set next Thursday. Henry Tunis and Daniel Van Brunt denied malicious mischief and posted $300 bail for next Thursday. Arthur Huff and Howard Reynolde admitted stealing a horse and bicycle and were sent to Reform. Robert Montjoy pleaded guilty to carrying concealed weapons with costs. further sentence suspended. Wilhelmina Mattison fined $200 and jailed five months for disorderly conduct. Frank Torchia pleaded not guilty to illegal liquor sale with $500 bail for Thursday. Josephine Smothers and Josephine Yetman fined $200 and jailed five months for disorderly houses. Martha Henderson pleaded guilty to illegal liquor sales and fined $300. Wesley Edwards and wife Gertie pleaded not guilty to keeping a disorderly house, awaiting trial. Grand jury to meet Thursday September 5. William H. Kelly’s wholesale license renewed at Red Bank. Tony Tico to be sentenced next Thursday.

Carnival Endorsed For Sea Bright Water Festival

The Sea Bright Board of Trade endorses a two day water carnival on August 5 and 6. Skull Fractured in Bicycle Fall in Belmar

Henry May, a Coast Gas Company employee from Bradley Beach, sustained a skull fracture after falling from his bicycle at F Street and Sixth Avenue in Belmar. He remained in critical condition at Monmouth Memorial Hospital though doctors expressed optimism for recovery. May was returning from work when his wheel hit a trolley frog, ejecting him onto his head and shoulder. Dr. Kinmonth and later Dr. Robinson attended him before he was moved by ambulance.

Lot of 81 James Street Church Site Cleared for Sale

The lot at the corner of Slocum Place and Broadway, formerly 81 James Street Church, is being cleared of refuse with grass and weeds cut and carted away in preparation for sale. Dr. William D.
