Steamship Sioux Fire Off Bayonne With Oil Cargo
The German steamship Sioux, built to carry refined oil, caught fire off Bayonne Light while en route from Bayonne to Tuxpan. Pioneer Sali Captain Tucker Edwards Dies at Branchport Home
Captain Tucker C Edwards a pioneer in sailing vessels between Oceanport Branchport and New York and an early oyster planter died at his Branchport home at four this morning after years of frail health. Born October 27 1826 he learned ship carpentry and helped build several vessels he later commanded. He early planted oysters in the Shrewsbury River and served as packet captain before steam and rail era. He helped haul stones for the rail bridge at Oceanport and carried Humber from Albany and Troy. Continued on third page.
