Masquerade Ball Attracts A Crow d In Long Branch

Over six hundred attended the fifteenth annual masquerade ball of the Long Branch Hebrew Free Burial Ground Association at the Lyceum last night. The event was the citys most successful of its kind with a crowded floor and full audience. Participants wore fancy original costumes and 24 program numbers entertained as judges prepared awards before midnight.

Ice Yacht Accident Injures Couple on Shrewsbury River

Crowds of skaters on the Shrewsbury River near Red Bank saw the third class yacht Silver Heels sail past Robin's Cove and strike John Manning of Fair Haven and Miss Mabel Fisher. Manning lay unconscious hours after being struck. Fisher suffered severe injuries including a broken nose, knocked teeth, a deep gash, and bruises. The injured were taken by ice boat to Dr Edwin T Field's residence.

Senate confirms Woolley as Long Branch postmaster

On February 22 Anthony T. Woolley begins his fourth term as Long Branch postmaster after Senate confirmation. He has overseen free delivery expansion and office consolidations since 1897, with receipts rising from 33100 in 1898 to 91200 in 1909 and a growing local staff now totaling twenty.

Ice boats fail to finish Board of Trade cup race twice

Yesterday afternoon two attempts to complete fifteen miles in fifty minutes failed as wind was scarce and ice covered with pools of water. Hazel L led the second race but could not finish within the limit, crossing final lap too late by one minute forty six seconds, while Debr and Isabel trailed.

Idle ex employes of Red Bank factory erupt in hostility

A circular from Local Union No 162 United Garment Workers urging a boycott led to protests in Red Bank. About one hundred Italian ex workers gathered before Eisner's factory, attempted to persuade workers, and clashes prompted police reinforcements. Six or more ring leaders were jailed as Recorder Sickles scheduled hearings and adjourned to Monday.
